Mirage 37.....

Dear All,

I am trying to find information on a Mirage 37 centre cockpit, bilge keel ketch built by Thames Marine in the 70's but I can't find any info anywhere. There does not seem to be ant test reports available. Does anyone know anything about this type?

Thanks for this, at least I know to have a good look around the keels if we do go and have a look at on! No one seems to know much about them which is a pity as they look to have a fairly good cruising layout....

I have never owned or sailed on one but a friend of mine completed a fin keel version from bare mouldings about 18 years ago and still owns it.

His is a ketch rig and sails surprisingly well and has won some club handicap races.

I dont think he has had any problems with the hull. He keeps it on a drying mud mooring and dries out when away cruising either leaning against a wall or using legs.

I looked at one in Mallorca this year, mainly because it came with a marina berth. IMHO it's an odd looking thing, seems to have very short waterline length for its loa, with a pinched stern and fat bows. The owner said it had lots of headroom, as he is tall. He also said it didn't sail particularly well but that's often not a problem in Mallorca anyway. The one I saw was a ketch-rigged bilge keeler. I didn't fancy it much as I thought it would be quite difficult to sell on. It's not the same one, is it? It was advertised in PBO more than a year ago but really the owner was only selling under family duress, so he didn't push it. My son went and looked at it for me when it was first advertised and he didn't recommend it. The price was very high for its condition.

Could be the same one! I have found two for sale one in Mallorca and one in the Hamble. We might go and have a look on the one on the south coast....
