That's right. The main annchorage is near St Jean, but it's quite common to see a few mega yachts anchored by Beaulieu, off Port Fournis. They tend to carry more chain, so can (or thought they can...)

Noticed from one of the press releases that the 'women vrew' were evacuated. Maybe they were all painting their nails when they were supposed to be on watch? I cant believe that there was nobody on watch. More likely there was some kind of mechanical failure which precluded them from getting out of the situation

I wondered exactly the same thing, I reckon there might have been some issue that prevented fomr getting the anchor up and under way.

Its ironic given the press relase about the size/cost/shiney finsh of the anchor when she was being built.

nope, sorry, there's no excuse. We are talking about a boat where there were no limits on the amount of loot spent on kit or more kit, and people or more people. Any amount of money cd be spent communicating with anyone or everyone to haul the boat off, put down aother anchor, anything. Ask one of these guys about the weather and they often give v recent NASA satellite pics. Or they cd've just hired helicopter to fly out and about a bit. Or have a helciopter on permanent driving around duty. Or rented five other boats to hang around 20 miles distant to tellem weather conditions. Or a personal satellite to look at this boat. Or a special on-duuty anchor-inspecting person, an anchor polishing bod, an outrider on a boat just hanging about just making sure that no riffraff come anywhere near the boat, three spare skippers, and some more locum skippers for when the actual skipper (persumably now sacked) is down the pub. This boat has it's own charter manager fer chrissakes.

It's the lack of such precautions that the only (real) explanation must be that they had a party and all got lashed.

I imagine the evacuated women crew either weren't actually crew, ahem. Lots of wimming easily comptetent and hardy and useful enuf on board.

hm. Surely the wimmin being taken off is nothing to do with the grounding : it's likely that the on-board wimmin are replaced with fresh wimmin each week anyway.

Not making an excuse. I agree with you, it's inexcusable and the skipper should indeed be sacked for this. The insurance company will be asking some very tough questions before they pay out as well, if they ever do. I just think there's got to be an explanation. You see these megayachts anchored in the Med and they're crawling with crew as you say. Maybe the lifting keel accidentally deployed itself when they tried to hoist the anchor? I dunno but there's got to be a more reasonable explanation than the crew were all downstairs shagging a bunch of Russian tarts shipped over from Ecstasea which brings me onto the next question
How big and flashy a boat do you have to have before women hang around on the dockside waiting to be invited on board? What I do know is that a T48 does'nt do it

Bruce is OK

Got a 20kg Bruce on my boat and I was very pleased with its performance this summer as we anchored overnight a number of times. At least in sand it performed very well even with unexpected wind shifts.

hm. Dunno. Bigger than 23metres. Well, that's not actually true. Loads of wimmin have been invited on the boat, but could they sort out the autopilot or fix that strange noise from the middle bulkhead? No they couldn't, and i can't say i am all that suprised- many seemed to follow the same route of taking most or all their clothes off and then lying very still in one of the cabins or on the foredeck. Weird. It can be quite difficult to gettem to clear off and sometimes loads of wimmin all hardly wearing clothes clutter up the foredeck, hence you have to call in the helicopter to winch them off, as with MirabellaV.

Not meaning to contradict you in any way Mike (as it was not you who inferred they were Bruces), but just for the sake of information her anchors are not Bruce's. They are ray style anchors built by Manson Anchors here in NZ.
