Just got a message from crew on our boat (family are on boat....I'm stuck working here in London, dang). Mirabella has run aground off Cap Ferrat, on the way to Monaco boat show. French navy trying to assist. Not got any pics yet, will try.

I would fancy being the skipper.......

Apparently she dragged her anchor onto rocks near Beaulieu sur Mer, and now that nice Mr Abramovich is helping to get her off. Some crew taken off. Damage to keel and hull. Not too much sniggering, tho (except in this office)

Mr Abramovich, what power.

What a superman! How's he getting her off, has he donned flippers and a snorkel?

I'm told wind will die by weekend. Learner, I'm there sat and sun, late flite termorrer night. If you fancy a sail out text me, you're velly welcome. Not doing anythin special, just chillin.

Mirabella musta had a tech problem and got blown onto Cap? There are no outlying rocks. In fact the coast is so steep you scrape the paint off the topsides before the keel hits the bottom.

That figures. Learner (who's there) said the wind suddenly rose strongly from F4 to F7 is for a while at lunchtime today, onshore.

Anchors slipping down there is quite believeable

Surprised they can't start the engines a bit faster though?

Might be getting worse

Latest news is that first salvage tow-off attempt has failed, and she is now leaking fuel oil....not good......

Just make sure you get pics and full facts for us. Sad that such a beautiful craft should be in trouble.

Re: Mirabella V

Excellent, sounds much better. Learner is nearby and sez the wind has fallen a lot, and a calm balmy evening expected. It's dark now of course. As the wind only got up quickly for a few hours, there wont have been much swell so hopefully less damage. Aswade pointed out a likely cause of draggin anchor is the massive windage of the mast when the wind got up, which seems plausible diagnosis.

From the pic her location is Point Fournis, just south of the marina entrance (the wall behind gives it away). This is about the only spot for miles around that has (a few) outlying rocks, 100m from the shore or so, 2 clusters of em if I recall. Maybe that's a blessing, most places around there have such steep sides that without the rocks she would have ended up busting her topsides and mast on the sides of edge of the bay

La Ciotat, where the mentioned dry dock is, is just E of marseille, so 100-110 miles. I'll be there (Cap Ferrat, not Ciotat) Saturday, but I guess she'll be gone by then

It's a bu**er isn't it? You buy a nice house with sea views and some plonker with a manky old lift keeler comes and parks on your private beach. Then his mates come and try to pull him off with their pwcs...

Re: tosspots

Strangely enough, had same thoughts.

Nice to know next time I drag anchor though, that professionals also screw up

Dragging anchor

Did you see the size of the Bruce anchor they have on board though!

It should have stopped an oil rig!

aao.sized.jpg

Though it could be a 10kg jobbie taken at a really weird perspective
