Mikuni Diesel Heater

Is there a quick way to fill the fuel line from the main diesel tank to the heater (distance about 10 feet). It is currently empty after changing filter and lack of use. The little solenoid pump seems to advance any bubbles of diesel about two inches along the pipe before the heater detects no fuel and shuts down thus having to start the whole start up sequence again. This would mean it would take two weeks to fill the pipe! If I have to disconnect the tiny bore clear plastic pipe and try to fill it with diesel so be it - but there must be an easier way surely?

If you fit a priming bulb into the line (like an outboard's fuel pipe) that will allow you to fill it with a few squeezes (with the filter bleed screw open).

If you just get a piece of cable, connect one end to battery positive, then touch the other end to the solenoid pump's positive terminal, it will give a single pulse. By wiggling the wire against the terminal so as to create numerous pulses, you should be able to fill the pipe fairly quickly.

When I had a problem with the fuel system on my car I helped fuel through by pressurising the tank slightly using a battery driven compressor. In my case I attached it to the fuel return to tank pipe and opened the bleed screw on the fuel flter. When fuel came out of where the return pipe had been attached I reconnected it.

Could you slightly pressurise your tank by attaching to the vent and then allow fuel through by opening at a bleed point or joint near the heater?

Obviously care needs to be taken with fuel vapour around.
