There are some posts on here from a while back about marinas not allowing any other electric meter but “meter maid” due to safety issues. There are alternatives such as Rolec Leadmaster. What is the general consensus of what make of meter to use. I note that Meter Maid is selling just north of £200 just now.

It's the Rolec Leadmaster that is restricted. My Rolec Leadmaster stopped working and it was only after 6 months that the marina contacted me and stated that the electricity reading has been the same for a while. In my case no damage done but obviously a fault in the sealed unit. I binned it after cutting off the cable and connector.

I bought the Metermaid from the marina to replace it and so far all is fine, expensive for what it is. Some folks use domestic style meters in waterproof housings with the usual connectors each side.
 
 
It's only Haven Marinas that have this restriction AFAIK - I think they had two or three fires from the same brand of meter, so banned them across all their marinas.

You can pick up secondhand inline meters quite cheaply if you scout around sites like the Friday Ad and Facebook Marketplace.

Bought a Metermaid for £80 plus P&P on FB. The thing was broken, took me a month to realise (free electricity). Contacted the seller and they blocked me.

I think that you will find Rolec have stopped production some years ago "For commercial reasons"

Tough leads are an alternative.

Not surprised, I wouldn't touch a SH one with a barge pole. Unless I knew from whom I was buying and could inspect it first. From experience I would say that there is little or nothing to choose between The two types stated, both are prone to moisture ingress and subsequent failure!

I have a metered lead I can sell you, or anyone else for that matter (£60 posted) - not sure if it’s a Rolec or the other brand, but deffo working. Pm me if interested and I’ll send pics.

With respect, if you need instructions to make one of these, it's probably best to buy a ready made product rather than risk putting it together wrong and electrocuting yourself.

Before doing anything check what is acceptable at your marina. Some will only accept approved types of meter - eg Meter Maid. Many would not allow a DIY construction to be connected up.
 
Luckily over here ... we are on honesty system ... we don't have meters having promised not to plug power hungry gear unless marina guys advised first ...
When I was boating in UK - some years ago I have to admit ... many marinas I knew - would offer berth-holder metered lead for deposit ... when vacating berth - lead and meter remained there to avoid trouble if docking somewhere else. If you ended berth contract - lead and meter was returned and as long as meter was still in working condition - deposit was returned.
