Thanks for the information. I have not considered Messologhi for many years because of previous bad publicity. I will now head that way for a look. get the prices etc.

IF this is all correct and above board. We shall possibly return one day-lets hope it is as they say.

This is the official situation as is now, my previous post is an unedited copy of their news letter.

I also have information which suggests that this is not the final chapter so its watch this space. . . .

edit: things will get even better so I am told, but I must flag this as "informed gossip" at the moment.

Not much sign of any improvement and definately the lowest standard marina in the Ionian. Visited Mesoponghi yesterday and have to say what a rubbish strewn smelly boatyard with absolutely nothing going for it but a price......based on the fact its a below standard marina. Yes it may be cheap but what a dump. More mossies than the jungles of Belize and overflowing skips, few toilets and showers forcing people to shower onboard not to mention cut lazy lines which had not been replaced and electric and water sockets not working. That said the liveaboard community were most welcoming; thankyou RNSA!

I will anchor next time outside the marina....less hassle and more pleasant.

So it is "same as - same as"

What a pity. For me it is a choice between Levkas, Gouvia, Messalonghi, or hauled out in Actio. I would like to live abourd for part of the winter so Actio haul-out is not practical despite the price advantage.

Try Oddysys Marina, at Vathi on Meganissi. Small friendly, clean and developing. Quite, safe and nice. No yard facilities though but they will take the boat to Lefkas, or anywhere you want.

My experience launching Palarran and spending three days at Messo was excellent. The large crane arrived a day before the launch, I was scheduled for second, and they did it. The bathrooms and showers where clean, very clean for a marina/boat yard. The starter on my starboard motor froze up and Mata's husband fixed it overnight for 90 euro. That is a bargain!!!!

I signed up for another year and will probably do two more. Maybe if you are a liveaboard the place would grate on you but for haul and storage, given the price, it is the best - IMO. If I was nit-picky the only thing they could do for a small amount of money would be to sweep the yard. I think the stone and dirt has been there long enough.

The other sailors at the marina where great and we had a nice daily chat for the short time I was there. Thank you again Charles for you assistance and advice.

I'm glad everything was sorted OK, Palarran.

I'm now in Kalamata marina. Compared to Messologgi it scores lower on every facet. In fairness to Kalamata, it's much older and entropy more apparent.
Many fell foul of the ex-manager (personally as I never had any problems with him I fear they should look to their own interpersonal competence).
Yes, there has been an improvement - though Jo has aged dramatically - launching is more efficient (and quieter) work is undertaken and done on time. The damned trailer is still there but boats' weight being far more evenly distributed. Compared to other marinas it is dramatically less expensive and, though you have to pay for services, ideally placed.

Despite the negative publicity from a few dedicated, vindictive critics the place is filling, not as many Brits as other Europeans, French, German, Scandanavian, Italian and lots of other Anglophones.
The town is unspoilt and delightful and facilities (for its size) very good

Some one once wrote "messilonghi make people bloody boil "
And mine is bloody streaming with some of your comments Charles

Please get your fact right , Yannis wasn't the manager of the marina he is a major share holder ,
"Despite the negative publicity from a few dedicated," not just a few people who unhappy with Messilonghi but a few hundred , and as far as "vindictive critics " how dare you call people who had some really big problem,"vindictive critics " YES you may have been there a few years but the truth is you have no idea what it really like , your there for a few weeks in spring and another few weeks in the autumn , my blood bubbling let alone boiling as I read your comments , If it wasn't for us who had spend the winter there , there would had been at less 11 yacht that would had been damage , HEY GUYS, it wasn't the marina staff who sorted them out but the liveaboard , the marina staff watch one boat with broken bow lines smack into the boat next to it and did nothing Spiros was fishing next to it that morning and did nothing , few of us went on board to sort it out , another yacht jib came unfold again the staff watch while we sorted it out.. Others had lines that came untied and was hitting the pontoon , others fenders rose up and rubbing into the next boat . Maybe one of them was your ???

As for , How did you put it ? "Interpersonal competence)."

Well let take a look at the problems we had with him .

1 .... while on the hard our ele bill worked out to be 22 Euros , Yannis instructed mata to change our bill to 138 Euros , what he didn't know at the time was that we got Spros to sign the reading befor and after , he never got away with that .

2 ... a contact was made with the marina for a date ,time and a price in writing ,to move the yacht so we could do our pads , on the day the guys refused to move us because of the dispute between Jo and Yannis . On the same level as this , once again when I went to pay for the move , Yannis once again instruct Mata to change the invoice , she even told me this which led to her being throw off her chair
by Yannis and having to be taken to hospital , again he never got away with it as we had in writing ,

3 a delivery of three sheet of S/S was refuse the guy chased out of the yard .

these are just 3 example of my experiences and there a lot more .

In some place the standing was water log and cradles started to lean , one broke .

We won't go into the toilets shower and Internet or the sewage that over flow In the Marina.

As for Jo , his a great guy and sympathies with the problem but he did nothing to sort them out other then to tell us to take no notices of Yannis , well great guy or not that doesn't really help us .

What I will agree with you on is Messilonghi is a good town , shame the marina lets it down big time .
Will we go back there ? Only if there some big changes , we want more out of an marina then it just being reasonably price , it not really that cheap any way .

Ps re the workmanship , the three boats one of them a cat I sew being antifouled , didn't even have they hull washed before it was slapped on .

Hmm I find that hard to believe!

When I say not washed , they may had been wash when taken out of the water the end of that year, but wasn't re washed before painted .t .

What an interesting mixture of truths, half-truths and factual errors.
Obviously unaware of the standard of many of the marinas on the Italian side of the Ionian.

First the mosquitoes - yes there are a lot, but what would you expect in an area of brackish water - if one takes the simplest precautions you need never suffer their depredations - on board at least. A very similar level to Levkas.

untidiness and overflowing skips - quite right, too few bins irregularly emptied.

Shorepower - well you do have to use a switch card to get any power and there are far too many which malfunction, however in the 7 weeks I was there I never went without it for more than a couple of hours.

As to the number of toilets and showers - there are 16 of each, perhaps you didn't bother to look at the 2nd block. A perverse person would insist on showering aboard. 4 shower-heads missing.
As to lazy lines - as I didn't bother to go onto the pontoons, I wouldn't like to comment. But two days before I left the divers were down replacing the ones on the quay.
As to anchoring outside - I'd not disagree that it's always better to be anchored than in a marina - I'm surprised, though, you have no complaint about the smelly, soupy mud your anchor chain brings up.

It is entirel correct. I have just been into the office. Even the reception staff are pleased at the move.

Also, the poubelles are currently empty and there are two divers working on the pontoons' lazy lines just a few berths fr us.

Addendum:

As of 00.00hrs this morning Thurs.the pedestal says we've consumed 2.9Kwh since midday yesterday! Called out Spiros who told me to go to the office this morning and get a refund on his say so. iExamining the card this morning it appears to have a crack in it so maybe this is significant, I cannot say.

Further as of Sat am. Appears that the software in the elec regulation sys has become corrupted and no further credits can be addax to the cards. We are therefore all enjoying elec at 25c/metre from the live aboard circuit. Since the water supply for the excellent showers is also controlled from the same cards, it maybe that it won't be just the horses from the big parade tonight that will be ponging a bit by tomorrow. Tech to do the repair arrives from Holland, Tuesday. It is a PH here on Monday.
