Because it usually means the secure gate is left open leaving the boats accessible to all. But I was there on Friday night and though the PnD machine was u/s, the gate was secure.

Any time i've been there and the P&D machine is not working there has either been a sign with the code on or a sign saying to contact barrage control, never seen it left open for people to walk on and off, like i said previously, the only people to blame for that are fellow boat users.

The point is though, when the PnD machine is working then the HA patrol and check boats have bought tickets and that the gate is shut and as they are regularly on the pontoons then lesser of interlopers on the pontoons.

How to use them?

Hi all,

If I can barge in here?

So, my boat is in the bay, well the mariner in the river actually and I want to use the pontoons.

Is it a case of motor up there, pick any pontoon, tie off, pound in meter (what's the charge/coins?) then off I can go leaving the boat alone for a while to eat or a coffee etc?

Could be a nice way to go a for a meal etc instead of parking and walking with the car!

Thx,

Steve

Yes ,just find an empty bit of pontoon and moor up .The fee is £2 for first hour and £1 per hour for further hours but read other posts.

The code is on the ticket which you are supposed to stick inside a window on the boat so I normally record the code on my phone while ashore due to having a short memory.

Sneds, there isn't a chippy but there is a Hungry Horse pub called The Oystercatcher that is cheap and cheerful though it can be busy. You just pop over the Pont y Werin bridge. There are Tesco and Morrisons in walking distance too, or you could brave CBYC that is a walk (or row) down the river.

Wakeup, you can't really blame the yellow RIBs for all the wash that occurs at MQ, I have seen endless idiots in MOBOs and RIBs that flash about over the 5 knot limit and cause me no end of hassle! Assusing the yellow RIBs of being the only culprits is very narrow minded to the problem of the general public also making wash! Another wash maker is when the sluice gates are shut, it causes a wave like a mini sunami that when is hits the shallows at MQ will cause a big wave.

Keyfronts, the 40s were a brilliant site to watch, massively popular event I thought and a welcome one to the Bay in the future, might want to consider changing the dates though, I thought having it over the HF was a bit limiting to boat users.

There is the Harvester pub a very short walk without going over the bridge and the meals are really good, better than a lot of normal pub fair at similar prices.

Bridge Toll

The theory is that the toll will be dropped to 50p in 2015 once the French construction company have recovered all the their capital and profit. But, I bet that the Welsh Assembly will continue to collet at £6 as it will bring in some extra tax, I just can't see them reverting to 50p as was originally planned. You are right, this crossing fee does stop companies locating to South Wales as well as individuals making life choices.

As I understand it the Welsh Government has been lobbying Westminster for some years to reduce the tolls. The bridge is still the responsibilty of the Uk Transport Dept not the Senydd. At the moment its not certain that the Senydd will be in a position to do anything with the tolls. You may be aware that the tolls on the Humber bridge have been removed but not for the Hafren. I wonder why that is??

Well, as I said in my earlier post, the toll that is collected goes to the operator/building company not the government. Only when the contract has been satisfied and monies recovered will the running pass back to government so WAG would have been wasting their already wasteful time lobbying when the contract hasn't been completed. But you can bet your bottom that if WAG get to run it, it will fall apart whilst they increase the tolls as this will be the only tax raising power they have (thank god).
