I am looking at a mid 1980's 26 foot boat that has had its twin BMW's replaced with brand new Mercruiser 4.3L's. Does anyone have experience of extended use of this engine at low revs (circa 1,000 rpm)? Any other general comments on these engines?

If I remember rightly, Mercruiser do not recommend running below 1600 rpm for extended periods, can lead to bore polishing, and inceased oil consumption.

Don't know what type of boat you are considering, but if a deep V hull, won't handle very well at low speeds on the river. Will tend to zig zag and need constant helm correction.
