Fellow club member was in the Netherlands recently on a cruise, fell while ashore and cut knee badly, requiring hospital attention and stitches.
Apparently the authorities were very keen indeed to see the EHIC, but treatment was swift and good, although I believe some money had to change hands later to have the stitches removed.
