Med Marinas with Hotel/Resort facilities

Hi Jez

Just continuing the SoF theme for a second, and in particular the feasibility of coming here for the weekend: I was in the UK last night, at home in Brighton. Up at 6 this morning, got to north terminal security at Gatwick just before 7, for the 0740 BA service to Nice. Flight all ran to time; the usual 20 min walk to SLDV (where the scooter lives); another 20 mins and I was at the boulangerie snaring some supplies for lunch. By 1130 UK time I was anchored in Villefranche and enjoying a swim. In fact if you look at the Villefranche webcam at http://vsm.shinshu-a.com/ you can see Vega just to the left of the tall thin tree which itself is to the right of the road in the middle of the picture. Come on down ... :D

But I've been here all month
Got up at 10:00
Cleaned the bathing platform using some Wessex cleaner
Then had a blast out into the lagoon on an old classic Riva - might post some pics later.
Finally ending up at the Xiringuoto restaurant (on stilts in the lagoon)
A large group of us from the marina had booked a table for 12 of us for 2 o'clock
Long lunch - huge serving of Paella - lots of wine - then a quiet after lunch drinks on a friend's sailing boat followed by a gentle sail home.
There are no barriers between yachties and mobos out here
Finished off with drinks as the sun set over our Montsia mountain.
Really civilised way to live.
JW stayed at home this time but daughter joins us tomorrow with 3 girl friends - that's a boat with me plus 4, 30 year old, girls on board.
So JW, this time, will probably be out there and we will be doing it all again tomorrow.
 
Everybody likes something different and think theirs is the right one.
- Some marinas are like carparks on the edge of town where you have to walk a few steps (at least) to get into the town.
- Others, the Marina (big or small) is integrated (think Portofino).
- Some are well away from a town/city.

No point in trying to sell what we consider our dream marinas to someone else, better to find out what they really need/want.

Like houses some people like to live in the city, some in the suburbs, and some in a village or way out in the countryside it's each to their own.

I am weird (shall I just put a full stop there), I like variety, a mix of all of the above.

So in this case it is the OP....you want a hotel and pool, but do you want it to be in the city, in the burbs or out in the sticks? I am guessing city or burbs in this case and with a beach within 5 mins?

Dont need a hotel, I just put that in as they seem to be attached to the other facilities.

Would like:

Pool
Club/Club House
Restaurant(s)
Bar(s)
Easy access from the UK
 
Alicante?

It's a great city and right next to the marina (which has restaurants and bars...go into the city a hundred metres if you want great restaurants).

Very easy access from the UK. and 15 mins taxi from the Airport to the Marina.

Melia hotel and pool is right next door and there is a beach next to that. (not sure about a Club/Club house, perhaps someone can jump in there)

Palma sounds great from the descriptions on here too but I have no experience except fleeting views of that. Looks really lovely.
 
The royal yacht club at alicante has a nice clubhouse/bar but loads of places all around alicante marina
Marina salinas in torrevieja have just installed a nice pool, and again quite few bars, its still a bit souless but is cheap!

Agreed about Marina salinas. You need a car there. San Pedro a few mins away is lovely though and only surrounded by Spanish families who meet up on the beach after work...free mud baths there too; you don't feel so wrinkly afterwards, but you stink of sulphur for a few days. This is also a little too far from the airport (unless you can get a flight to San Javier...less of them now though)

I was at Torrevieja a couple of months ago and it was great for the kids, an hour from the airport.

...but Alicante beats those hands down on everything.

To which I can add

- Free kids club with own complex staffed in season from 9 - 6pm

- 12m boat E7000 privately or E8500 via the marina

- 8 room hotel - all suites E175 per night


And yes, my boat is there!
 
Alicante club house and the hotel are both nice places to go, the cost for a berth in alicante is about 4500 euros per year. This is for a 12m berth.
I have a 12m berth there.

depending on how long your boat actually is, they allow the official mooring length +10%, so you may not need a 15m mooring, you may get away with a 13m mooring which would bring the price down to a more reasonable 15000 euros

Not to mention: All inclusive berthing fees to include your electricity, water, pump-outs, unlimited WiFi, one lift and scrub, book/video share located in the air-conditioned clubhouse by the pool, that also has satellite TV, excellent shower block, very helpful staff/marinero's, it's own dedicated Forum where you can organise car share and even get help when shipping out boat bits.

At this rate you would think I was on commission with MDL.......
 
Jez, we had pretty much the same plan when we first moved the boat to Antibes in 2007. No pool, but we were berthed 20 yards from the beach, and there's lots else to do in Antibes, but SWMBO got bored in no time, and after a couple of weeks decided to come home and just travel across when we went to the boat on holiday.

Of course everyone's different, so it doesn't necessarily read across to your circumstances, and our son was only 16 months at the time so wasn't any real company for her, and was too young for all the waterparks and adventure playgrounds in the area. Your SWMBO will have lots of time to kill though, so wherever you berth i'd ensure you have access to broadband, and stick a big fixed satellite dish on the quay so you can get the main UK TV programmes. Also try and choose a port with a big British contingent so she can hopefully get to know some of the other boat owners.
