Hi all

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of cruising the med in an Etap 28. We currently own an Etap 28 and are thinking of going cruising in the med for 6 months. Any tips or ideas would be much appreciated.

Regards

I know nothing about the Etap 28 but the odd thing or two about the Med. You will find plenty of information on my website - link below.

Thanks a million for that! I have had a quick look at the site and no doubt it will answer most (if not all) of my ever building query list. I will spend a lot more time on your website over the nextf ew months.

Many thanks!

For five years I sailed to and about the Med. in an Etap 26. Despite the downside of the unsinkability there was sufficient storage to live aboard. The up side is there was never a problem with condensation and the double skin mitigated the heat a bit. And there was no need for a life raft to give me confidence in poor weather.

I sailed the British Isles, Holland, Belgium and France in the two years before that.

I got married a couple years ago so swapped to an Etap 32i with hot shower and fridge in an effort to entice my non sailing wife into my desoltary life.

So far so good!

I think Etaps are a really good choice in the Med (if you have the deep keel version). They are light displacement thanks to double-skin, and also usually have well set up fractional rigs and fully battened mains, so they go well in light winds which you often get in the Med - but are still very handy in a Mistral. The good sound insulation reduces annoying clap at anchor (where you spend most evening in the Med) and the good thermal insulation reduces condensation.

I am umming and arring over an Etap 37 at the moment.

One of the few disadvantages is that most models have the mainsheet traveller in the cockpit, which means that it is hard to fit a decent bimini. You will get a burnt head without one.
