If you don’t go looking for something or can’t ( not got the right vol of extra special genomic sequence +++ kit ) then you record a lower number .
Must be something special happening at the land borders in Fr and indeed air ports air that filters out omicron .
Wish the Fr would share there so called bio security if they haven’t got omicron .
.Incubation period mean time is 14 days so what’s the point of a 2 day neg PCR ? …..just a political gesture , no science to see here .
Political pure politics.= harms there own economy only , will not stop omicron .
UK , SA and Brazil have 90 % + of the WW deeper genomic sequencing tech / capacity .
So it’s either gonna be discovered FIRST in the U.K. eg “ Kent “ aka Delta , SA aka Omicron or the next Brazil .
By that time it’s already seeded WW .
There will never be a French variant because they do not know where to look or are doing a piffling number , you know French arrogance , it can’t happen in France .

Too late, they had 65,617 cases yesterday & admit they sequence far fewer than we do. They reckon they have 170 Omicron but i think we all know its more than that.

It's not 14 days.
For earlier variants it's 4-6 days on average.
Omicron could be under a day.

So with incubation period you always get “tails “ .
Using incubation it’s the RHS tails that if let out , out of quarantine will spread it .
Therefore my comment on a 2 day PCR test to release being rubbish science stands .If omicron is more contagious then those rhs tails are gonna be more effective in keeping it going through a population.
It does not matter so much where the peak incubation is , which way you ( Pete skews it to the LHS - shortening ) if the RHS tails get out AND are vastly more contagious.
This also explains the rationale behind binning the U.K. red list = pointless unless you quarantine the rhs tails.
