You are in the lap of the gods with those dates mate .
As a lateral discussion interesting numbers of extra Germans bombing out the Balearics mixing with existing + newcomer Brits .
Will the Delta pop up in Germany very soon ?
If so i reckon the delta ( judging from the various folks mixing mainland EU ) will strike numbers wise by mid July here .

As I said waaaaaay back write off 2021 and plan more effectively summer 2022 . Because then the wider EU will have sim Vac rates to GB .
2021 summer is a race twixt vaccine and variants .
Variants multiply in the great un vaxed , and of course can be imported from great un vaxed continents .........which has whats occurred.
Having said that the EU in between biting the hand that feed them ( legals with AZ ) are rapidly catching up .
Porto are you Professor Neil Ferguson in disguise?

Been in Switzerland mostly and recently the U.K. on business.
“ variants of concern “ are exactly that .
Its a long thread this , but what I have said has essentially happened.
Its gonna take time for the numbers across the EU to equalise which they will .
How ever un vaxed blood is potentially a breading ground for mutants .

If one state in Europe ends up with 99 % of virus circulating a “new variant of concern “then it’s entirely reasonable the other ( those without it ) to place restrictions.
Theses restrictions could be a mix and match of testing and quarantine.

Once Europe has essentially a homogeneous virus it will then be intercontinental travel .Barriers erected say Europe / Asia , Europe / South America or Africa ........where ever the “variants of concern “ pop up .This might be a 3/5 year run out .

Mean while within Europe it will open up fully travel wise because it will be safe obviously once everyone that should be vaccinated is vaccinated. There s not enough unvaxed serum for it to proliferate and mutate in .

Getting to this point is gonna be a bumpy ride .If the next mutant pops up in say ( off the top of head ) in the Netherlands then would you not expect the U.K. gov to beef up restrictions? ? Of folks coming in from the Netherlands .

If the Italians via sequencing have not detected any Delta variant then really you can not blame them , as a precaution requiring some quarantine from folks who have been in plague island recently.

U.K. iirc kicked up a fuss around the dates the flights from India were halted or passengers put into quarantine, the suggestion then was Boris called it 2/3 weeks late ?

Numbers are dropping here in the EU and life’s ( easing of restrictions) is returning to some semblance of normality .

Why should they risk undoing , undermining that ?
They still have a lot of folk un vaxed , but they are romping through .
Timing .It’s all about timing . Race between the variant(s) and vaccinations % of pop .
If this timing interferes with U.K. holiday plans so be it .

As far the easy jet etc the economic argument , proposed by Hooligan m well harm of a 3 rd wave ripping through there un vaxed outweighs the tourism's loss side of loosing Brits .

We made it to Burriana finally a few days ago. No issues with travelling, straight through the Spain side, only checked qr code. Did arrive at the boat to find it had been robbed (again!) so we left Burriana yesterday to Valencia Marina and will move her down to Denia today. Robbery aside, it's great to be back ?

Perhaps I’m looking for ways for justifying travel to my boat in Spain for myself but I’m interested in how did you (and others) justify (with a clear conscience) going against government guidelines?
I know you can minimise risk but AZ is only 75% effective and travel will only increase the risk of passing something on.
it’s a genuine question not a “get at”. I’ve just cancelled an overnight stay with friends in Sheffield and we are meeting in a park instead (Delta being on the rise in Birmingham) but I realise that at some point I need to start my life again.

Do you implicitly trust everything this government tells you? If so, stay home and risk catching something here.

I don’t trust anything they tell us, so I will be travelling to Spain with a completely clear conscience. And the infection rate in my area of Spain is much lower than in the U.K.

And I think your 75% figure for double vaccinated people is very much on the low side.

Not everything but I don’t have any other source of medical data and I don’t trust my own instincts which say “It will be Ok just go for it”
Interested in a reference (link) to a more accurate AZ effectiveness %. That would make me feel more comfortable.

I justify it by knowing that double vaccinated is as protected as I can be right now and probably for a few years yet, I think my personal risk of getting seriously ill or dieing from it is miniscule(even before being vaccinated) the risk of exposure where I am going is minimal (probably less than the risk of exposure where I live). The virus isn't going away any time soon, everyone will probably be exposed to it at some point over the next few years, and I want to start living again.

If I was much older, had health conditions that were known to result in a much higher risk, then I may decide differently. Everyone has to make their own assessment of the risks, and it's not surprising that different people assess the risk differently.

Porto - the UK tests about 14x as many people per head of population than Italy. We are the most tested nation on earth. You simply cannot compare case levels between countries. On June 13 Italy had over 4,000 people in hospital, the UK just over 1,000. I am willing to bet that if you tested 14x as many people in Italy you would find 14x as many cases or nearabouts. The Delta variant is absolutely in Europe, they just cannot find it and frankly the Europeans adopt a more liberal attitude towards reality ie if you don’t look for it you wont find it. Everyone just needs to calm down and be sensible.

It’s in the Telegraph today from PHE. Also that first jabs give 75% prevention oif ending up in hospital. Unfortunately we have had a government that has peddled a message of fear for over a year. I am afraid it is now up to each person to decide what they wish to believe and do for themselves. You might also like to question the motives of some members of SAGE - Dr Susan Michie just for starters. Getting on a plane is about the safest thing you can do frankly - everyone has had a pre test and most probably vaccinated. You are then spending time on your boat which is about the safest place on earth other than the mental stress boats cause in general!! I travelled extensively for work over the past year and did not catch (or spread) the virus. Just be sensible and start by ignoring what your/our government is trying to peddle.

Sorry but just to add if you want to see really good and reliable data look at ourworldindata.org Be sure to use different measurements together. For example when you compare cases per 100,000 also look at testing per 100,000 so you will note that the UK tests multiple times more than most all in Europe so then consider that a pure cases comparison is not entirely reflective

ah the communist Dr Susan Michie. Think that says it all!

As mentioned the delta variant will be everywhere.

As julians said, everyone has to make their own judgement. I have had a single vaccine so far, everyone I know who is at risk has been double jabbed. So I have no problem flying, not wearing a mask, getting back to normal, etc.

It’s hospitalisation and deaths , those are the numbers that count , or there trends .Always has been .
Yesterday in France 11000 and 60 dead , and dropping the graphs are going down wards .
Italy 4800 with 630 in ITU and 35 dead and again falling.Only 50 % are vaxed first dose and 25 % fully protected with both doses .
The UKs hospitalisation numbers are 2000 up from 1000 ish a week or 10 days or so so ago .The important curves are upwards .Even deaths unfortunately. But from a small base thankfully which reflects theses figures below .11 yesterday .1D89E640-AA58-4C26-BA99-F0B3D5EA3B2D.jpeg
U.K. - 80 % single vaxed and 56 odd % double vaxed .

You cant blame them for being cautious re new U.K. quarantine requirements .

There is constant sharing info between the European nations , in a tell and show way .What works , what does not work .Lots of peer to peer dissemination of info .It’s not a stuff you mate working environment.Quite the opposite.

As I said it’s gonna be a bumpy ride until the numbers ( hospitalisation + deaths ) more or less equalise out .
Same for individual vax programs. They all will not finish , cross the line in unison.

Boats running well btw , getting 28 knots from 1700 rpm as it early season .

Actually it is circa 1400. Which incidentally is about one Covid patient per hospital. As I have kids in the U.K. at Uni I can also tell you that most all of them are getting it who didn’t already have it. There needs to be some sort of perspective here. And I love the bit about how the European countries are all fully aligned and in contact with each other. Now that would be an historical event!!

Be aware of the UK test requirements.
WE have a big European company in town here in SC that are offering Antigen/Lateral Flow tests and do NOT meet the UKs requirement.
Shop around because it seems that another company in a town close by DOES meet the UK requirements.
Prices seem similar at about 40 euros per person.

So, which test facility do we need to book into in town Mike?

I am hoping to run down to Las Fuentes for a few nights from Thursday, they have confirmed they have slots available and are accepting visitors, we will need to sort test when we get back...!

I have since heard of a place in Benecarlo that does them on Saturdays.
We need to check further though.

Just arrived on boat in Antibes a couple of hours ago. Absolutely no problem at either Heathrow or Nice. Seems like taking tests, printing test results, printing vaccine confirmations and filling out stupid French forms was a total waste coz nobody looked at them at either end. Uploaded everything to Verifly as recommended by BA. Total waste too coz nobody seems to know what Verifly is. Very few people on their boats here and very few tourists. Just starting 2nd bottle of wine so all well with my world?
