Med boaters - will you get to your boat this year?

The gorge itself is spectacular, even the road trip is incredible, especially when all of the road is open. It’s so high you look down on the soaring eagles. I once saw a large helicopter fly into the gorge, it was like a bee in a bottle. I think it might be second to the Grand Canyon.

Yes it is a very spectacular road but a bit scary on a motorbike on some of the narrow bits especially when you realise there's nothing between you and a very long vertical drop should a car be coming in the opposite direction a bit fast:eek: Still, I suppose you'd get to feel whats it like to be an eagle for a few seconds:D

I thought you had replaced everything last year or did you leave the Fly in the teak and so completing? Or are you replacing some of what you did last year?

Arrived Italy yesterday. Wasn’t asked even to show test result. Everyone relaxed here and seems perfectly calm. They are more focussed on the football than corona virus. Doing an overnight errand tomorrow down the the Aeolians and then a long one to Kefalonia. Solved the navigation problem - thanks @vas for your help. I found where the reactor/compass is - right next too the lower helm in the panels as you walk down the stairs. Disaster leaving any toolboxes under the helm seat which is what i usually do. Anyway needed a recalibration and on the sea trial we found a lose wire impacting the pilot so sorted that. Touch wood ll is ok now but these are boats after all!!
It is such a big job that I'm doing the teak replacement in 3 stages.
Part 1 was the foredeck.
Part 2 is this one the flybridge.
Part 3 (the cockpit) might be a lot later because it is currently in quite good condition.
But I might make up the panels this year because I quite like welding them up.

Spain sounds like Italy - very please to see us.

so for those in the med - what tests have you booked in advance (fit to fly back, 2 day, 5 day, 8 day)? And with which company?
I booked Medicspot for the fit to fly back. Have it with me. For day 2 and 8 i have used testingforall and medicspot. For day 5 i always wait until i get back and then make sure i do a same day test and result in person. Rely on pot is a very bad idea.

For the test before the flight back I was planning to just get something in majorca, I had a look and there are various companies offering them locally.

And I wasnt going to book the day 2 and day 8 tests until a few days before I fly home - I have a sneaky suspicion that the govt will drop the requirement before I come back, so the later I leave it the more chance of it being dropped and I can save some money.

Passing on information that I just learned in the covid sub forum, but do people realize that the 10 days isolation starts the day after you arrive

To me it seemed like the Fit to Fly test is the most important because if thats buggered up in some way (ie the test is invalid or its lost in the post), then you are not flying. So for our flight to France on Sunday, I wanted to have an in-clinic test and in fact the nearest in-clinic test I could find was Heathrow so we went to T5 yesterday evening and had a test at Expresstest which came back this morning as both negative. Again IMHO the 2nd most important test is the fit to fly return antigen test (self administered) and I wanted to order that from a reputable company so I chose Medicspot who are not the cheapest but came recommended. In fact we received their tests by courier yesterday. In the case of the return test, if thats buggered up in some way, you've always got the option of getting the test done locally. For me the least important tests are the 2,5 and 8 day tests which, obviously, take place after you've returned from holiday so by my way of thinking it doesnt matter if something goes wrong with those. On that basis I looked for the cheapest test on the BA list and that seemed to be from Randox but i havent ordered those yet because you never know if you might have to return early so I will order those once I'm sure what date we are returning but you do need to do that before you return because you have to give the reference on the UK passenger locator form

Have booked and received Randox tests for 2,5& 8 days and will get my antigen test done locally in Majorca before I fly back. I’m told there are lots of places doing them and the cost is around €30(?)
This might sound silly but when we get back and do our tests we have to drop them at a drop box that is about 10 miles or so from our house. Randox then collect and take them away at the end of each day with hopefully results arriving the next day. I wasn’t aware that we were allowed out to do this and presumed that a courier would collect them from our door?? Seems a bit strange.

If you read the gov.uk website it’s pretty clear that you are allowed out to post/take your tests. You are advised to avoid public transport if possible.

Iam in Italy right now , they wanted to see the - ve Covid antigen test and vax certs .
Will be here approx 6 weeks .
Hear next week they intend to apply 5 days quarantine on Brits , coming from the U.K. .
Delta variant and all that that entails .
Watch if others follow suit ?

Depends on the U.K. numbers on one hand and the % of un vaxed serum soup in respective host states on the other hand .
Each will make the call .Italy has already .

Be aware of the UK test requirements.
WE have a big European company in town here in SC that are offering Antigen/Lateral Flow tests and do NOT meet the UKs requirement.
Shop around because it seems that another company in a town close by DOES meet the UK requirements.
Prices seem similar at about 40 euros per person.

Got flights booked to majorca on 16th July, new boat arriving in majorca on 10th July.

Probably means that Spain will block Brits from the 15th

You are in the lap of the gods with those dates mate .
As a lateral discussion interesting numbers of extra Germans bombing out the Balearics mixing with existing + newcomer Brits .
Will the Delta pop up in Germany very soon ?
If so i reckon the delta ( judging from the various folks mixing mainland EU ) will strike numbers wise by mid July here .

As I said waaaaaay back write off 2021 and plan more effectively summer 2022 . Because then the wider EU will have sim Vac rates to GB .
2021 summer is a race twixt vaccine and variants .
Variants multiply in the great un vaxed , and of course can be imported from great un vaxed continents .........which has whats occurred.
Having said that the EU in between biting the hand that feed them ( legals with AZ ) are rapidly catching up .

I think you will be fine. Looks like finally some sense coming to UK travel policy ie end of quarantine for vaxed Brits. Personally I cannot see the ban spreading from Italy who themselves are going to be screaming as they see orange streaks across the sky carrying vaccinated Brits to Greece who will certainly not close down travel. This makes me a little skeptical of what the Italians will do but this is Italy of course.
