Measuring my boat

The port where we stay for winter want everyone ones boat measured. They take the boat out of the water in the cradle hoist, and using plumb line and laser measure the length and width. My appointment is for Wednesday morning.
I’d hoped to capitalize on this by having a jet wash and change some anodes...but no, they won’t allow it...in and out, thirty minutes per boat
No scope for a creative discussion as to the angles to be subtended by the laser lines?

Quite many do not have equipment to measure visiting boats on the spot, hence relying on what they think they can see.
The dimensions of the boat are on the registration certificate which you present when you want a berth…I am assuming that they know boats grow over time…tomorrow won’t even be windy…so no chance of the plumb line favouring me☹️

Generally, in Spanish marinas, there is a reception dock for arrivals. This makes it fairly simple to measure total length by the staff if they wish. By taking off our hydrovane rudder and removing the anchor from the bow roller....and knowing the marinero we got a 10m berth rather than 12m and over seven years that saved us stacks.

Always used to trim a case of beer into their office at Christmas.

Price rises everywhere, not just Uk and France. Spain too. Slight increase in per metre charge but discount for 6 months up front reduced from 60% to 55%. At least water and electric included here in Lanzarote.

Remember all those 'I can't use my boat so why should I pay' covid muppets? Coming home to roost, I reckon.....

There has been a steady creep in prices at marinas here..but nothing like the explosion of prices at the supermarkets...so I suspect that there is a lot of inflation left in the system just waiting to trickle down to the ports🥺
Our fees have not moved for the past 3 years, but they started moving this year, fortunately only by 387 Euros!

In our little boat club most club members pay around £1000 PA, less than 25% what it would cost them in one of the nearby posh marinas which offer very little more than a berth and que for the lock on busy days.
Some of our club members are not happy when the mooring master wanders down with his tape measure and has the temerity to charge them for whatever length of the pontoon they are actually occupying,anchors/davits/ inflateables and all.
Worst offenders probably Turbo 36 with pair of davits and usually a saggy mouldering inflateable........... its 42 feet matey. !

On another nearbye boatclub mooring pontoon a skipper fell out with the mooring master regards the length of a boat.
Determined to win the argument the skipper had a bit cut off the front of his boat .
Whoever did the job apparently made an excellent job of it.
Allegedly the chunk removed off the front of the boat could seen on display attached to a nearbye pile on the pontoon.

Pretty dumb to lift a boat to measure it when there is modern laser kit these days accurate to 1mm or so. You can laser measure a boat by standing still amidships (on the boat or on the quay) and pointing a laser at the stern (or at a stick held vertical at the aft edge of the swim platform, say) and then turning to the bow and pointing at the bow (or a stick at the bow)

I noticed that the length on my berthing contract jumped last winter from what it stated on the reg certificate to what it probably actually is due to non standard bathing platform.

Ok all done…the take out place is really tight…luckily it was a calm day and I already serviced my bow thruster

The state of the boat and anodes wasn’t as bad as I feared…there was a plastic bag wrapped around the rope cutter.
Turns out the length wasn’t an issue because my boat is short and fat, I’m paying for the width and have a meter to spare on the length.
The width was just fine…but the port might add some fender width to the final figure.
Took some fuel onboard and now we are on a little sea voyage to Porquerolles so I can relax and unwind 😎

What did your official (according to them) LOA and beam turn out to be?
