We've just got home from a lovely few days at the boat, made all the more better by MDL.

Arrived at the boat Saturday evening, glass of wine with good friends..... Nice evening :)

We had planned on a relaxed few days as the past couple of weeks at work have been bonkers busy. We left Mercury mid Sunday afternoon, just to head to Ocean Village for the night. We stopped for fuel at Port Hamble, only to be handed ice cream and doughnuts. Made the kids very happy.

Then when we arrived at OV, heading to the office to get the codes etc...... Was offered wine, beer, soft drinks and all many of snacks. I know it's not a lot but it still makes such a big difference.

Then on Monday we did a walk around Southampton, following the Titanic trail. Very interesting and humbling. Then in the evening we ran to Hamble Point for the night. We was met at our allocated berth, not only to take our ropes, but to be offered beer, wine etc...... Clearly our reputation for a drink problem had spread!! Such a lovely welcome :)

Tuesday has been spent heading to Cowes before returning to Mercury, only to be met with smiling faces and a warm welcome again.

Makes me glad I berth with MDL. Not only is my boat looked after, but I feel they appreciate my custom.

Well done MDL.
 
We've just moved to Chatham & have been very impressed, not been there a week yet & been invited to a get together on Sunday, sadly couldn't go due to my health (temporary flare up) & then got a message from the boat Monday night to say power unplugged. Phoned the marina not expecting an answer, got answer machine & message with a mobile number, which sure enough was answered, apparently a power outage but they were in the process of starting a generator & sorting the problem. Very impressed.

Is this a wind up ice cream, cakes, beer wine .. are you the MD or something i have been with MDL for 20 years and they wouldnt give you the steam off their p-----ss

Not a wind up. We've been with MDL 6 years and it's the first time we've been handed drinks, but could get very accustomed to it.

Generally we get given ice creams when fuelling, but never the hostess trolley treatment as we are fastening our ropes at the mooring

Let's hope it's a sign of more to come.

Have seen some pictures on their Facebook page of the trolley going around, certainly not a wind up.
 
we were offered breakfast on Saturday but wanted to get on our way so didn't take up the offer... but missed the drinks altogether! darn it!!

Couple of weeks ago returning to our berth at Mercury & it was a little windy and Scott spotted us heading down the fairway and shot down from the office specifically to take our lines, tbh rather than breakfast or anything else that is the sort of service that I remember.
 
At Farndon (on our pontoon at least) fellow boaters take each other's lines when berthing.
As you approach your berth, people appear from their boats and help you in. No need for the marina staff to do it.
Not a service thing, just courtesy and friendly boating spirit.

The weekend after Easter on our return to our berth in a horrendous gale (the worst I've ever berthed in), there were 8 people on the pontoon and adjacent boats to give a hand.
One had thoughtfully placed a giant balloon fender on the end of the finger - luckily for us, as it saved our gelcoat from a huge gash.

Clearly that doesn't happen at many places then?
 
Have to say we went to OV Saturday lunchtime for a short stay called up and they had a pre-booked berth ready for us on A [the posh bit], and a man standing by to take our lines + a friendly bunch in the dock office who told use where we could go (in the nicest possible way [to walk the dog]). Went to C pontoon to say hello oGaryo but you were away. Thank you MDL OV job well done.
 
I've recently returned to MDL after a few years away.

In my experience their service was great when I left and still is. I left due to price alone, and now the gap has narrowed and the extra cost is less so I have moved back.

At Mercury over the weekend I chucked the dog's ball onto the deck of a yacht on the hard by mistake.
I mentioned this to the dockie in passing.
Half an hour later the dog went mental. There was a bloke with his lost ball coming along the pontooon! He had got a ladder and climbed up to get it.

This sort of service which is very common in MDL staff makes a difference. I had a free ice cream which was nice too :)

It was a wine tasting organised by the Marina. Didnt see a trolley (or similar) going around but it was based at the bottom of the gangway when we left for some lunch mid afternoon.

Always found the Torquay "dockies" top blokes. Always time for a chat..
