Have workshop manual it shows how to rebuild the bit missing is how to remove the gear box.

What I want to know is, Can this be done in place or does one have to remove engine ?. I have good access all round any help would be much appreciated.

If you can undo the bottom bolt holding the box on and have room to pull the box back then yes it can come off in situ
Look to the online parts lists for gearbox connecting components
Rubber carrier can be sticky!

Many thanks for your knowledge goes along way to solving the problem,

Gear box seems to be bolted on internally Fwd of the box looks like a funny shaped bell housing which the water pump is attached. Will have another good look on Tuesday, thanks again.
