Our Volvo Penta MD2B now has nice new fuel pre-filter and filter elements. But how to bled it? The shop manual says to open the bleed valves which I've found, then "feed fuel using the feed pump". The pump is indicated on the diagram but there's no obvious manual actuator. Should i turn the engine over by hand? With the starter?

You probably have the filter between the tank and lift pump. I have a similar setup and after changing the filter I leave everything else alone. Open the bleed screw on the filter and then lightly pressurise the fuel tank with my dinghy pump. Even though air leaks out of the tank breather there is sufficient pressure to fill the filter. I then close the filter bleed screw. If nothing else has been touched there should be no air in the rest of the system so any further bleeding using the lift pump should produce airless fuel at the engine filter and fuel pump bleed screws.

I insert the dinghy pump hose in the tank filler and hold a rag around it to seal. You only need a very light pressure so slight leakage is no problem. In fact I have done it using garden hose and lung power.

my manual only lists the main filter. Do you know the # of the pre-filter? Did pressure within the fuel tank get things purged? O
