MD11D - Diesel feeding pump fails every second yea

The diesel feeding pump on my MD 11D fails approx. every second year. The tiny valves and spring inside breaks and it stops working. The engine setup is standard: rubber mountings, saildrive leg, water seperator and filter. The tank is located approx. 1/2 meter below the engine(the pump). The engine runs for approx. 100 hours per year. For some reason, it looks as if the pump lives a harder life than expected.
Does anyone else have similar experience or a hint to what may cause the frequent pump failure.

Springs commonly fail by corrosion fatigue. Could be that your diesel supply is contaminated, perhaps by seawater.
