The latest CA news has a piece in the Essex section about a sailor who is seeking crew for his McGregor 26 for sailing in northern US and Canada. I quote 'you should only apply if you are likely to be available for the subsequent Artic voyage.' So that's it. Official. I give up. McGregor sailors are made of sterner stuff than me!

would you...

sail in the arctic in a boat with less than 2m beam, flat bottom, internal ballast and a mast that would look small on a dinghy?

great for a fun day out and a bit of water skiing but in serious waters?

McGregor Thermometerc

Obviously the answer is not to use water for the water ballast. It would be a much better idea to use mercury. Not only is it heavier thus helping the stability problem but he'd be able to tell the temperature and pressure as well thus removing the need for a barometer and thermometer, helping the STIX even more.

What do you think?

Re: McGregor Thermometerc

It is possible the environmentalists may get upset at the prospect.

Re: Which side of the pond...

well I'm definately on the Eastern (with quite a lot of N) edge of the pond..

not sure I'd take one of them McGregors on Loch Ness (even if they do have a Scottish Clan name)!.. hey you could paint a McGregor and then do highland flings on it.. maybe even more viable than the sled option..

Wonder if you could take a McGregor down the Cresta run?
