MBY Ten most iconic boats of all time.

Within that selection, I would have picked only the two most obvious no brainers (albeit for totally different reasons), i.e. the Aquarama and the Moppie.
For the Arrow and the Huntsman, I might have found a place in the top 20, but I can see why someone could give them a higher ranking.
As far as the rest goes, well... Do things like Christina and A even belong to the motor boats category

The Targa 33 is missing...it lead the way in 1987 where many many other halve followed.

With all respect for the old Targa 33, can I know how did it lead the way.
Even by staying to British standards Sunseeker had the 36 Rapallo and 33 San Remo which came before it.
The 30 Targa which came in 1990 was more innovative in much many ways and was a much bigger success.

I,d have thought this one , and here’s the rationale-

Before this Mario Amarti just made A N Other flybridge boats of the period ( 70. s )
Took Ray Hunts and Lindsay Lords by now we’ll established ideas ( winning races at the time ) on hull design to a new level in a production boat using GRP , and importantly never strayed away from those .

Combining luxuary and speed in choppy seas = seakeeping .

Also was the first to use underwater exhausts in production boats , later copied by others .Plus a few other innovations in later modals too .
Never got involved with trendy outdrives either , like Sunseeker / FL ruining the balance and CoG ,running angle etc .
Never got derailed by fashion over function .

You can still buy them today albeit made by Ferretti, still hold the core values .

Some Iconic Production Boats of all time.

- Bertram 31 (sold in over 1700), the pioneer of the Ray Hunt deep Vee hull
- Bertram 54 launched in 1981, it paved the way for the big sportfishers and is still considered one of the most seaworthy boats in its class
- Riva (wooden series) mostly represented by the most iconic Aquarama which stayed in production till 1996.
- Riva Superamerica, a model which pushed not few to go GRP in Italy and beyond. Sold a total of 250 plus with a model which started a 42, became a 45, 48, 50, 50 Special, and 50 High Performance
- Italcraft Drago (a hidden gem from Sonny Levi) constructed in very limited to order units
- Italcraft 7.5m Sarima (sold in over 600 units) and the boat which put Italy in the water the most. Many refer to it as the Fiat 600 of the water.
- Itama 38 - Portofino has said enough about this
- Magnum 53 Maltese (the day big open boats went over fifty feet in 1978 thanks to Mr. Theodoli) Sold in over fifty units in what is still a very much sought model and considered one of the most sea woethy boats in its class. Good condition models still sell for 300k plus.
- Posillipo 52 Technema, the inventor of the modern flybridge boat design courtesy of Zuccon, sold in fifty plus in a five year production run, and will evolve in the 55 and 60 models
- Sunseeker 34 XPS Portofino - a nice stripe of blue white and red and a shortened Don Shead (very Levi inspired) hull of the Class 1 behemoth Cuv 38
Bonus
- Baia B50 - Italy's first answer to the Magnum 53 Maltese. It won two times the Venezia Monte Carlo race and had a hull designed by Don Aronow who did not design hulls. So design might have been to Walt Walters Jim Wynn combo and or Harry Schoell, who designed the winning lines of the Magnum 28 and the boats Don did after the Magnum. So some way it was designed by the later since in the eighties Walt Walters where still in most cases with Magnum. The Baia B50 was also the first production surface drive boat for sale.

Nice list ,very nice indeed :encouragement:

You see most if not all of those ( and derivatives) in the Cannes area .
I think there’s a growing trend for folks to take one of those ^^^ and restore it keep it nice .
We have a couple of concourse Bertram 31 ,s nearby and recently I had a Mag Maltese opposite me in the marina .Its gone now .
Plenty of old bigger Rivas too ,
The 51 Turborossa particularly in a new red paint job looks fab .

People stop and stare at mine at the dock and at anchor come close for a gawp, happens all the time you just used to it .

I was in the Lerins the other day ,a Itama 54 Italian flagged Roma decals came and anchored next to us , then a Tornado 38 ( Itama modern copy on outdrives ) again Roma decals and IT flagged anchored the other side .
Then one of those local Bertram 31 s then a local Riva Tropicana 43 .
We were ashore at a restaurant at the time so no I pad ( tender trip ) to take the pic .
A great sight though for “boat o holics “

Maybe a bit biased but surely such a list needs a Sonny Levi boat eg a Corsair?

I mentioned his Italcraft Drago which is his most ever iconic designed boat as said by many.
I could have also mentioned his Alfamarine 40 Bronte to be fair which sold as much as 170 units (which was a lot in the seventies) and was designed together with his other esteemed legendary colleague Franco Harrauer.
