MBY Ten most iconic boats of all time.

Hey - where's the Fleming 55 or the Nordhavn 63?
While I agree that your glorious F55 could be worth mentioning, I hope the N63 is a typo.
If there's a Nordie which deserves a place in the list, that's bound to be the 62, I reckon.
Having been onboard both, chalk and cheese springs to mind!

The 62? Definately. Never been on board one but externally it's looks 'the business'. So yes, typo accepted since the 63 is new.

With all respect for the old Targa 33, can I know how did it lead the way.
Even by staying to British standards Sunseeker had the 36 Rapallo and 33 San Remo which came before it.
The 30 Targa which came in 1990 was more innovative in much many ways and was a much bigger success.

I would be interested to hear why you consider the Targa 30 to be more innovative than the Targa 33.
I believe it did lead the way for Fairline as it was the first of the highly successful Targa range of boats following on from the very popular Sun Fury

Sure. First the original 33 Targa in many ways was a work in progress changing before it became the complete package.
No midship cabins the first versions, open plan layout, and I think it became complete in mid late 1987 two enclosed cabins.
For Sam Newington she was a bit a work in progress.
She was also not Fairline first entry into sport cruisers and as you say the Fury before her possibly made as much a statement (if not more), especially in the Mk.2 fiberglass radar arch version 26 Sun Fury.
We had bucket loads of those coming locally. My father nearly bought one, I used to crew on one at ten years old with twin 110hp Volvo. 20 knots seemed fast back then, but she topped 28.

The 30 (33) Targa was more a complete package because she was born and stopped production in more or less the same way, and also took Fairline into the 90s.
Even when the model became a 33 in 1992 she was unchanged with the exception of more glitch woods inside and new design (maple instead of the dark mahogany) to helm and passenger settees.
Another small change was the extension of the bathing platform in 1996 the last year it was produced.

Anyways just to cut the story short I do not consider the old 33 Targa innovative and was in design and flavour inspired from Sunseeker (not little) and a way to take away part of its med market success.
Which in a way she did suceed.

But in all this she was (and still is) a great boat, so do not get wrong. But great from legendary is a bit of a difference.

I think if you have to consider the greatest Fairline I think many will tell you it is the 36 Turbo because she was the first Benard Olesinski hulled Fairline and also for its great balance and sea-keeping.

Good call (you missed out amazing interior space for a 36ft boat).

Of all the owners and all the boats that I have on my Fairline site and Facebook Group I think the Turbo 36 is the most loved.

Thank you for your thoughts very interesting.
You may recall the first Olensinski Fairline was the 21 Weekend followed by the 26 Fury.
Yes the36Turbo was a very well balanced but considering only 600hp.
Surprised that it was popular in med due to exterior seating, Over 200 built.
Are you related to Joe Satariano?

Who's Joe Satariano?!

I was actually thinking of forumite "Boatbore" and his Superhawk 50 that has been the subject of a few of his threads e.g. http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?492982-Looking-for-advice-on-hull-repaint&highlight=.

Also featured in the swanky new MBY and on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlRZlWf365g.

Ah the fame !!!! I have not yet had to dodge paparazzi camping outside my house but presumably it’s only a matter of time !

FWIW I have owned 3 of these boats. A Fairey Huntsman, several Fletchers and the Superhawk 50 in the article ...... this simply suggests that Hugo Andreae is a man of impeccable taste ! ( or at least similar taste to my own)

To my mind an iconic boat is not necessarily one you want to own, but one that is instantly recognisable and special in its own way......hence I agree with A, Christina O, the Wally and even Bluebird...... there are also a load of muscle boats that make you go wow when you see one even though you wouldn’t actually want to own one !

So should the debate be 10 most iconic, or 10 most desirable........ if the latter then boats like Itamas and Magnums and much of the Riva family must surely feature. If it’s 10 brilliant boats......then the Fairlines and production boats (like my sunseeker) should get a mention.......

It’s horses for courses as usual ! A desirable boat to a jet setter like Portofino or JFM (or me now that I am famous !!!!) is probably not the same as for someone who does his boating in the Irish Sea..........

x-Fairline dealer since the eighties and till about 2012. No not related to him.

Actually 36 Turbo is rare in the med. But many who know the most of Fairline boats will tell you it is the best they ever made.
We have five or four 36 Sedan's locally though, as you point out due the seating area.
No Fairline aft cabin ever made it in Malta.
As far as British aft cabin cruisers we got a couple of old Brooms, had a Pearl 60 (which then sold) and a Princess 414 at some point.
