The planned MBM Scillies cruise has had to be postponed from this coming weekend (24 - 27 May), due to the dreadful weather being experienced at the moment, and the forecast.

We have advised all participants that we are trying to delay to the next weekend, namely the 31st May to the 3rd June, or thereabouts.

If you are NOT part of the current cruise list and would like to join us, there are sone spaces left - just let me know.

Boat sizes currently range from 25' to 57'.

By the way, one of our MBM staff in Falmouth told me "From what I can see, I wouldn't even take a 200,000 ton tanker out in this weather...."

This is not a put down on your endevers. But I would have thought it extremly difficult to arange cruises in company, long in advance of date. My own experience is. Whilst I might have a wish to go to say, Sillies. I would not make the decision till sat on the boat and ready for off. Even then might change my mind on the way, and just go some place else. Or just decide it's a good day for boat mending. Seems to me the weather in this country is far to variable to make any long turm commitments. So for these reasons, even though I would quite like the idea. I would be reluctant to book a place.
The combination of ten or 20 folks work/social/family life commitments coupled with holidays/weather/inclination. Seems to me to be an awsom task. Only a comment. Not passing judgment.

No one can force me to come here-----------

No! Unpaid, yet willing volunteer, only....

Having done so many of these trips over the years, I have helped in various ways, such as Air Tragic Control for berthing the inbound fleet and photography.

Last year, I was asked if I would use my boat as one of the two control boats. I did - and huge fun.

This year, I was asked to be co-pilot for Tom Gregory (cruise leader) on Calm Voyager for the Channel Island, Scllies, and Normandy trips.

Hence, the post about the Scillies trip.

Good points....but....

On the trips I have done over the last 6 years (and that's nearly all of them), I can't recollect any of them being cancelled. There have been two or three occasions where the departure date was delayed by a day only, and once for two or three days. Return journey, I have had to leave my boat behind twice whilst being bad weather bound and having to get back to the office.

Otherwise, every trip (and that's many) has left on time, returned on time, and been really successful.

But, these Sea Miles trips are a new venture, and with Calm Voyager going around the coast came the idea of some short sharp trips, of which the Scillies is one of the first, yet the most dodgy for weather sensitivity.

So, after all that rambling, what I'm saying is the great majority of the time, the trips work very well, and thast this is the first I have known to be cancelled.

And given the rush for repeat bookings, those that come on them really enjoy them.

By the way, the Channel Islands trip will be published in the August issue....

From us on MF that did make it down to Yarmouth for the great scillies adventure that is unfortunately not to be, thanks. Thanks to Jake for letting me drive Calm Voyager back from the Ribex in Southampton, and thanks to all the gentlemen that let me, without getting going too green, even when an instruction for a bit more was taken to be a bit more speed, not a bit more closer to the coast.

Thanks to Tom G who valiantly kept our spirits up, in spite of all the bad news weatherwise. Thanks to him also for teaching me how to use our new jet rib, at great personal risk of being thrown off the back in my need for speed, or not being able to control the throttle very well.

Fun was to be found, you only had to know where to look.
