Maybe a silly Q but - how does one stop a Diesel Engine running ?

With exceptions of those who understand stop solenoids and statuary requirements of the oil/gas industry, I cannot remember in the 72 years I have spent on this planet reading such a load of bow locks.
So you have worked in the oil industry maintaining diesel engines like myself and others here have?

Statuary on oil rigs? A nice touch, I've never seen that before.

Most production operators could be considered statuary such is the extent of their productivity if it wasn't for the rush to claim the left over bacon rolls post breakfast galley closing.

5.30 full english, 10 fresh buns and lashings of crisp american bacon then , 12 full hog lunch then 6 full hog dinner, no wonder I got to be a fat bstd!

.

And ice cream 24/7 ..... The problems we had if the ice cream machine went down..... Mainly from the Operators squad :) :) :)
Oh god aye! Brought back memories of the Staff house in Luanda, the new Muricain boss decided they needed one there, so they ordered a top of the line double server Taylors. It duly arrived, dozy bstds, they had ordered a 110v model, No large transformers in Luanda so I had to put a CAT 3304 gennie on one of the supply boats to send there so his lordship could have his ice cream!

Not if it's designed correctly.

unexpected operation is why I would never fit an automatic fire extinguisher in the engine room. Smoke/fire alarm and manually operated fire extinguisher.

You have a 4108 ? If so, easy to adapt an off the shelf throttle body. The image below is an example, it's a Mercedes OM636 throttle body (on Ebay, brand New, £69.50). All you'd need to make is a plate to fit the square flange on the throttle body and weld a tube to it, the same diameter as the air filter fitting on your intake manifold. Fix the two parts together with a couple of inches of hose. The throttle body take a K&N style air filter. It is usually operated by a Morse cable, so practically impossible for it to close accidentally.

I chose this as an example because it is what is fitted in my boat. Mercedes obviously hadn't heard that shutting off the air supply at the intake would cause the engine to runaway and explode :)

Thanks Paul for the heads up

Could be adapted quite easy just need to see if I can get one local.

If it was a real possibility that closing the air input would cause the engine to runaway and explode Mercedes would not fit such a device.
