These where taken at about half tide (about 2m above chart datum)

As I have an appointment on Friday which I cannot alter my plan is to join the merry band on Sunday lunchtime and return to Lowestoft on Monday afternoon.
Have informed potential crew accordingly and hope this will meet with the intentions of others.

Please do tell if we shall be arriving at an empty anchorage /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I understand that on a nice Saturday evening upto 40 boats have been anchored in the area.

On Sunday there were about 6 yachts and 1 Mobo (the only 1 displaying an Anchor ball) at anchor.
See the 2nd of my photos above.

They were all on the beach (South) side of the channel.

The best holding is said to be on the North side of the channel.

If it is crowded we can always raft up on some of the larger craft in our group. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I you want a quieter night you can always drop down to Ramsholt and see if George can find you a spare mooring.

Re: May Day Meeting - what & when

What

This is a bring your own BBQ.
We will have a reasonable size BBQ and some charcoal.
It will not be big enough fro every one to cook on at once.
So bring your own BBQ or Q to use ours.

When
Should this be a lunch time BBQ or an early evening do that sort of extends into an evening do?

With High tide around 2.30 p.m. there may not be a lot of beach at lunch time
We may go out for a day sail and be back at the rocks for say 4 p.m.

What are your thoughts.

Re: May Day Meeting - what & when

If you don't know which mud hook to use in this area there is no hope for the rest of us.
I would use the one that stops JB from drifting away.

Re: May Day Meeting - what & when

Evening makes more sense.... lunch is a PITA as we'll come into the river an hour or so before HW, so might not be at the Rocks until early afternoon, say 14h30 ish.... any earlier would mean us coming in on the full flood, and with less water at the entrance...

After overdosing on the recent spate of anchor threads, I am going to try the latest technique.... so apologies if it takes us a while, but we will be setting 11 different anchors in a Bahamian Forked Triangular Fore-and Aft Reverse Tandem set up, on 275m of 1" chain with a further 110m of 26.5mm Octoplait with a rubber/nylon combination snubbing system. I believe this is optimum for the Deben conditions.

Roger, for you, I suggest an empty beer crate would make a good anchor.... any on board this soon after launch? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: May Day Meeting - what & when

Re: May Day Meeting - what & when

Can I anchor using my tri-point keel rudder grounding combo, with enhanced truck tyre concrete ring, with 40 meters of chain nicked from Felixstowe, with a riser obtained from the Royal Navy Tug O War team, and a 5" diameter mooring buoy on 4mm string with "Fark Orf, No Mooring" written in black marker pen.

I vote for evening as well, as I have get there from Burnham, which is a fair distance, so I am told. I am hoping for an Onshore F6 entrance at LW+2 hours, so stand by with the Pentax on the beach as I come in, for some spectacular shots.

Re: May Day Meeting - what & when

Well I hope you don't foul our anchor on the turn of the tide.
We would not want you having to leave your anchor and chain with us and find a mooring elsewhere!
