May Day Meeting

Offshore pre-meeting

We fancy a bit of a day sail.
We should be able to slip over the Deben Bar by about 11:00.
Would be happy to meet off Felixstowe somewhere and show the way in.
High tide over the bar on Sunday is about 14:30 with a good 3m of water.

PM me some contact details and we can talk.

Clive.

Re: LAtest: Full Circle no show!

I don't think that Sirenia could quite stay ahead of him.
And that is if he promises not to open the throttle and leaves one engine turned off.

Have a look at EastCoastRivers web site and download the entrance details for the Deben.
This is based on a survey at the end of March this year so it should be o.k.

Clive

Reply from himself

Tell him I am not undercover any more, so I can have the big stuff on now /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't think he had a problem finding me last time in the river twiddle /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: LAtest: Full Circle no show!

Work has dealt the final death blow to our plans to come on our first trip which is a great shame. I work on large industrial machinery and when they stop for annual maintenance/repair, the owners have no choice other than to say "jump", and the suppliers likewise have to say "how high". Needless to say, stop times can change last minute, as they have done. Oostende is out as Pipedream will be in Newcastle (only long slot for many months to get a pre-Jester run in), but we will get to a meet as soon as we can. Have a great time this weekend and look forward to the pictures and report !!!

Re: Forcast

Clive,

We can always find a way of socialising without the beach!

Of bigger concern to me will be keeping a close eye on the forecast for Sun/Mon with regards to the bar.... forecast for tommorrow and Sat is strongish North Easterly winds (F5+), so could be a reasonable swell coming down the North sea by Saturday evening... if it remains breezy on Sunday, the bar might not look very appealing... although I believe the current forecast suggest a swing to the west....

Will monitor carefully!

Re: Forcast

SimonJK has the winds going SW to W 4 to 5 & 5 to 6 Sunday / Monday.

As you say we will keep an eye on it.

Typical of the weather to break on a bank holiday weekend.

Re: Forcast

The Deben bar is not normally a problem in strong winds from the West. I came in last year in a strong 6 Westerly which was a 7 at Languard Point (according to Port Control). I had come out of Shotley and conditions going across the Stour, around Harwich, were lively but after that OK. I consider SE to be the worst direction closely followed by E. If in doubt only enter/leave near the top of the tide, but probably not if SE or E and much above force 5.

Re: Forcast

Alternative venue should it get a tad bad weather wise

Still hoping to pop up and see all from here but if anyone wonders where I am if I don't make it /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I'll be in there somewhere close to the big noisy boat with gallons of booze sliding down nicely /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Quite right you wimps. Get on with it. Bit of rain never hurt anyone. Hah!

Quite - there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.
Or in your case, no clothes /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No BBQ

Here we sit on our mooring at Ramsholt.
We have been up to The Rocks.
No one there.

Sailorman and Guapa where here this morning as we went for a sail.

Went round to Harwich to find the Neil in Morgana had decided that with the forecast 6 to 7 he did not want to get stuck up the Deben.

He was waiting to lock back into Shotley when we got to him.

We had a grand sail back to Ramsholt.
Surfing at 7.7 Knots at one stage.

Sailorman and Guapa had both left when we got back.

We will meet up again soon chaps.

Re: No BBQ

Yes, sorry about that Clive...

The weather conspired against your plans a little.... if it had been a bit warmer, and not threatening to rain, we might have risked it.... but with it being chilly, and pretty breezy, it seemed that a bottle of wine and a quiet night on our berth seemed the more appealing option...

PS, Sirenia was looking grand in her new colours!
