Masthead light - steaming or anchor (or both)?

What's all this got to do with the OPs lights?
Not a great deal. It could be said that the OPs question was answered long ago. But understanding how ships crew react to lights that they see & how ships travel at night, in places like the Dover Straits does broaden the mind & learning around things like navigation & boat handling
If conversation was just limited to one subject & not allowed to develop, then interaction between groups would be pretty boring- would it not

Well said DB ...

With regard to seeing others ... many years ago on this forum before it got hacked etc. - I posted a photo to illustrate the problem of seeing objects from a ships bridge ... the photo was taken from ashore in Hamburg ... vessel was about 100,000 ton tanker. The point was that if you cannot see their bridge - they cannot see you. (I want to show it again - but Photobucket is still not letting me in)
The distance from where I stood to take the photo to the ship was significant and much further than I am sure most of you would think ...
I made a comment that if you have a bright light at top of mast such as the all rounder - even though it is not in agreement with ColRegs .. it has a far better chance of being seen than lower down lights .. and in the context of the photo - you could be much closer to the ship and light still be seen.... an extreme I agree and not something to aim for !!

So, you've been making silly comments for years, i thought it was perhaps a recent thing.

If we all start putting light on that "are not in agreement with Colregs" where do you suppose that will lead ?
