I plan to go up the Canal du Midi to Carcassone in May and need to know where I can remove the mast. I would also like to leave the mast for my return two weeks later. The mast is about 11.5 meters long. Anyone any ideas?

My mast was re-stepped at Cap d'Agde when we emerged from the canal. It's not right on the canal, about 40 minutes motoring from the river entrance downstream from the round lock at Agde, IIRC. The marina at Cap d'Agde is very large, with a comprehensive technical area. They did an excellent job at amazingly low cost. I would be very surprised if you could not arrange for them to store your mast for you.

Sete

When you enter the outer harbour in Sete, turn to port and you´ll find a small boatyard in the corner. This would be one option, however there are more quiet places when you go through the bridges and enter the Etang de Thau. Go towards the back right of it - I forget the name exactly but it´s where the Casino is (?) and here there are 2 yards which are ideal, and very reasonably priced

We unstepped in Port la Nouvelle, very reasonable, you can enter the canal here and is close to Narbonne.

When we transited west - east we intended to enter the Med at Port la Nouvelle. We got to just before the last bridge before the port and found that there was a large sand bar beneath it. The depth was well under a metre. That was in May. Presumably it was dredged later but we had to go all the way back to the Midi and out at Agde.

Port la Nouvelle

BoyBlue, please could you let me know what yard you used in Port la Nouvelle. We hope to have our mast out there this summer. Did you need to book?

Hi SimonAt,
No need to book, the yard is about 1 mile up the canal from the sea, a mobile crane is parked by the edge of the canal, the workshop has large doors, they are engineers to a variety of trades.

( Port hand side )

Mast lift out

Hi SimonAt,

Forgot to mention, have your standing rigging bottle screws at finger tight and all mast electrics unplugged ready for the lift,
A reel of gaffer tape handy to tie the rigging to the mast and if you are carrying the mast with you, the cradle at the ready. A bucket over the windex etc. is de rigueur.
Good luck.
Barry.
