I am hoping to save a few bob by making a mast (approx 40ft) for a yacht I am building. This can be timber or a self assembly aluminium. The problem is that kit suppliers seem extremely thin on the ground. Can anyone point me in the right direction please ?

Over the years I've seen classified ads in the boating press. If I were looking for one, I'd head off to the boat yards and ask them were I might track one down.

There's a list of 57 spar suppliers in the Directory in the bottom nav bar. One of those should be able to point you in the right direction.
I'd never be too happy about buying a second hand stick on a 'caveat emptor' unwarrantied basis. Depends on the price differential but there's so much you could miss with just a visual inspection.
