Martinique is nice

Great place Dominica. Don't go straight to Roiseau(Spelling?) - stop in Portsmouth. If you need anything doing to the boat, find Igna (short for Ignatius) Mitchell. He's a one armed mechanic and diver(!) but is friendly, efficient (by island standards) and good value. There's a good pizza place a couple of streets back from the water and a couple of good restaurants up at the north end of the bay. You can take a tour up the river but get advice from Igna first. You can anchor at the north end of the bay but there are also moorings at the south end. At Roiseau, go almost past the town (stop at the ferry terminal for formalities) and pick up a mooring at the dive hotel. Sorry, forgot the name. Ask there for Pablo - he's good for finding things and does good value island tours. Have a Kubuli for me! Wish I was back there.

I know the feeling we found that most islands needed a weeks exploring at least, otherwise we felt we had rushed past.
Can't remember the name of the bay but the place where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed is also a nice stop, the set's stil there, including a plywood bridge made to look like stone, and a whole village front attached to scaffolding.

I do miss those cruising days

The only way to deal with the constant touts for Indian River trips is to say you've been so get it out of the way immediately! Don't let them talk you into coffee or whatever at the head of the river, prices rival New York!

Walking north along the road from Portsmouth to the cruise ship dock in Prince Rupert Bay you'll see loads of hummingbirds along the edge of the marshland.

There used to be an american lady advertising 'internet cafe' at her house in a street just off the centre of Portsmouth. If she's still there, steer well clear, there are very small but very unfriendly wildlife there /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Our favourite island, enjoy.

Go to Roseau on Dominica, anchor or pick up all a ball off the Fort Young hotel and cross the road to La Robe Creole restaurant. Brilliant, great local food, run by an ex-pat Cornishman and his wife.

Ian ....

Very best wishes from Svet and me ......
