So desperate to get back on the water....

I'm trying to judge when the marinas/harbours around the solent will be opening to overnight visitors
My guess is that they will peg themselves to the planned April 12 date to allow overnight stays (and opending of B&B's etc) - although that does say "overnight stays with no shared facilities), although none of them seem to have made any updates to their visitor policies since January

The RYA advice is here
Coronavirus - advice and information for recreational boaters | News | News & Events | RYA - Royal Yachting Association
which I believe that the harbour authorities usually follow

I know this is all subject to potential change, but wondered if anybody has any inside knowledge on plans or can remember how soon after restrictions lifting that they all opened up last year

April 12th looks the likely date unless the population mess things up - went to my vaccination centre today leaving plenty of time to get there and got caught in a traffic jam! Lockdown what lockdown! And I see on the news cases in some places are rising again. Really hope the public will obey the rules so we have a decent summer

If lockdown 1 is anything to go by it will be 29 March when the national stay at home order is lifted.

Apparently people being early for their jabs is a real problem despite being advised not to show up before time. Given how many are getting vaccinated every day I'm not surprised traffic is on the up.

Mine is open for "essential" maintenance - easy to justify a visit if your boat is in the water. Quite a few there last weekend.
I'd expect March 29 for day sailing as that's when outdoors sports re-commence (fingers crossed).

Might even be a week or so sooner in Wales ??...

Unless Drakeford gets his way and opens hairdressers first (“a lot of people, like me, haven’t had a haircut in a while” he says... hmmm).

Plenty of places to anchor overnight without visiting a marina on the solent, I would have thought.

Assuming lock-down is over, the bit of the press briefing I heard yesterday in some areas case rates had stopped going down, other areas the cases were growing. Looking at Zoe Scotland, Yorkshire, North West, East Midlands have gone back up to R value of 1.1.

Great to see! ? And nor should they really be 'closed' AFAIK. There is nothing preventing local travel for non-overnight boating (providing household numbers/distancing etc. maintained).

Can't say I fully understand the different regs in Wales, but I know that our club is required to remain closed/locked (including the yard/slipway) until Welsh 'Tier 4' restrictions are relaxed.

Loads of people there today. Even a couple of people polishing their hulls. People doing all sorts of jobs .
Not sure if that comes under essential maintenance.
It must be really confusing trying to get one's head around "stay at home except for local exercise"
I really do wish plod would take the time to visit.

Because by selfishly interpreting the regulations to suit their own interests they risk spreading the disease, leading to further lockdowns for everyone.
Nonsense. You can’t spread a virus from one boat to another and ill thought out rules don’t deserve to be observed.
Boris told us stay stay away from our second homes - including our boats - from his second home and whilst the queen was at her second home. Well I don’t respect rules like that - end of.
And judging by the number of people out and boats out today more and more people agree.

And that's why it requires a visit from the plod. You don't get to choose which rules you obey, otherwise they are not rules.
Which marina are you parked at? I only ask because I think ill-thought out laws about the private ownership of pleasure craft don't deserve to be observed, and I fancy a bit of time on the water.

I do choose actually. As do many others. See my pics above.

There’s nothing in the regulations about staying at home except for “local exercise”. What the regulations say is that you can’t leave or be outside of the place you are living without a “reasonable excuse”. What actually determines a reasonable excuse is not explicitly defined and will depend very much on the individual circumstances, but there are a number of “exceptions” to the restriction which give some indication as to what might be considered a reasonable excuse. “Exercise“ is an exception to the restriction on leaving your home, but what constitutes “exercise” is also left open to interpretation.

Whether visiting your boat can be a reasonable excuse, or the use of a boat considered exercise, will depend very much in the individual circumstances. I suspect, if challenged, it might be difficult for many of those visiting their boats to show they have a reasonable excuse. However, a blanket assumption that people visiting their boats is automatically in breach of the regulations is unhelpful.

The last thing the police want is a nosy neighbour calling the police on people alone on their boat with a negligible chance of spreading the virus because they think they are breaching the regulations, but with no understanding of the circumstances and whether there may be a reasonable excuse. If, on the other hand, there was a boat with a dozen teenagers onboard drinking and messing around then that is much more likely to be a both spreading event/risk to public health and in breach of the regulations.

I would suggest that it is more a case of a bunch of ignoramuses ignoring the lockdown rules & demonstrating that they care not a jot for others. That they care not a jot that it ecourages others to undertake even wilder activities. Thus slowing down the recovery rate. That is the real crime.
The overall effect being that the return to normality is slowed for the masses who do care & for those who want/need to get back to work. for the business owners who are in a desperate state & about who they care not a jot about. think of the butterfly theory.
As for not breaking the rule. I suspect that 90% of those traveled over 25 miles to that marina. One only had to look at the crowd round the buffet bar to see how many cared about social distancing.
Is it really right to say " Oh I am Ok " whilst expecting others to stay locked in or to be more restricted in their movements? Personally I think it is a sign of the selfish me me society that we have become- unfortunately.
But others will think that it is acceptable & dream up an excuse to defy the principles of lockdown the government is trying to adopt.
