Mariner 5hp 4st pumping out fuel

Ahoy all : just getting my Mariner 5hp 4stoke out of winter storage , connected up the remote Fuel Tank OK primed the Carb ; fired up first real pull ( when I got used to the energy required to turn it over ) but then fuel came spurting out of the top of the carb : so before I get all dirty n smelly , can I please ask for any ideas or comments from experiences ? thank You

First guess its the float chamber cut off valve faulty or dirty , am I going in the right direction ?
