Marine Scene

Went in there about a week or so ago and the chap told me it was the last day for the Penarth store. The mail order business in Pyle is still going and there were no bargains to be had cos they just moved the stock over. Apparently there'll still be a counter service in Pyle.

According to the chap the footfall this season was 'dreadful' so they decided to close the store. Don't know why this should be, force 4 always seems to be busy when I go in there.

Maybe the fact people chose to go to the more expensive corporate shop is the reason they have closed? I have checked the price at both for every item I have purchased since Force 4 opened and only bought 2 items in Force 4, one was a display item and the other something out of stock at Marinescene which I wanted before a trip. Everything else was better value.
The corporate machine wins again. A real shame.

Just worked out its actually cheaper now....just ordered bits on 1st class delivery and thought well my fuel would have cost more to go to the shop!!!

I am not surprised, I have shopped at Marinescene for years both in the old premises and new and always in the past found them very pleasant but after my last visit i said no more.

As soon as i walked into the shop i was pounced on and made to feel unwelcome, I like to browse as there is always something i forget to buy and always something new and interesting to look at, but being followed and made to feel like a shoplifter didnt make me feel at ease and asked bruskly "What do you want" puts me off.

Saving a few coppers is not always more atractive than pleasant service.

I have to agree with you as regards to their attitude to people browsing. I also have experienced the 'your a shoplifter so we shall follow your every move' attitude, so it would not come as a surprise when i decide NOT to buy anything and walk out with NOTHING!

as regards to this thread, yes, the penarth shop has now closed, and they are now based in porthcawl. now there is no competition for Force4, watch the prices for even basic item go sky high!

Unless you need something in a hurry mail order is cheaper and easier so all chandlers need to be competitive wether theres any local competition or not.

Very true! My comment was based on the going to a shop to buy/browse, rather than trawling the net (where, in my experience, cheaper items turn out to be fake and a load of cr**!)

Marine Scene Penarth Store

Not surprised that it closed down, the shop was poorly stocked and the staff lacked the most basic of product knowledge, in addition they demonstrated a total lack of interest and poor customer service which did not make for a pleasant shopping experience. Since the guy that use to manage the shop left the service went down rapidly, he new his onions!

Marine customer service

Is there any decent companies in south Wales for customer service ? I'm just new to the area and would like peoples opinions on companies for engine servicing and boat bits around Cardiff and Swansea ?

If you need shackles and blocks etc, try the Bosun's locker in Mumbles next to Joe's ice-cream. Lovely old lady in shop who is so helpful. There is a treasure trove upstairs and prices are very good. No link just a happy customer.

Message from Marine Scene

There is a lot of discussion about the closure of our Penarth store. Due to expansion we decided to move all our retail activity to Porthcawl. We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused to our local customers. You can read more about our move here: http://www.marinescene.co.uk/news/article/60/goodbye-penarth-hello-porthcawl!-.

With regards to the level of customer service you have experienced we would really like to discuss this with individuals in more detail. We would appreciate it if you could contact us directly on sales@marinescene.co.uk. With your feedback we are able to improve the services and products we offer.

Kind regards,

The Marine Scene Team
