Hi all,

I made a mistake when I ordered my shore power inlet socket, I think it was my fault anyway. Regardless, I fitted my shiny metal inlet into the boat and wired it all up. It was a 32amp socket.

I now need a shore power cable to go with it (only need 16amp) but the only one I can find is 80 quid from tcs. This is a bit too dear for a shore power cable I think, so can anybody suggest an alternative? The inlet is a three pin blade like connector.

Here's a pic of the plug I need.

Although I'd prefer a 15/25m run of cable. The adaptor is 39 alone so plus the cost of a standard shore power cable means I might as well stump up the £80.

Any suggestions welcome.

Cheers,

Nathan

"There is a marinco one on ebay ending at 9.30 tomorrow morning" -

Isnt that one of our forumites ?? didnt they post a pic on here showing us the new floor that they had laid or am I imagining it ?

Yachtbits have Marinco shore power fittings on their web page, they seem quite expensive but you might save a bit by buying some Arctic Flex from your local electrical shop (about £1 per metre) and connecting to a Marinco plug. Why did you pick a Marinco shore power unit in the first place?

I made exactly the same mistake - bought the shiny 32amp Marinco inlet connector for a great price on Ebay - then had a heart attack at the price of the plug.

I searched far and wide and there appears to be no cheap solution so bought the Marinco plug for 80 quid - and the waterproof rubber sheath for another 15 quid.

The news that you won't want to hear is that the 16amp plug that you've posted the link to doesn't fit the 32amp socket - you're going to need the 32amp plug and that's about 80 quid for just the plug not the 40 quid for the 16amp one.

I made my own cable up with the plug for the cheapest I could find on line and 16a arctic cable at around £1/metre from the chandlers.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.

On the plus side, my Marinco 32A socket if still nice and shiny 4 years on and my 80 quid plug is nice and robust and solid.

Looks like I'm going to have to spend the money. Annoying to say the least. Still, at least it all goes towards having the best Corribee that ever floated. heh.

The really annoying part is, I actually ordered the 16amp socket, but the chandlers sent the wrong one. I, being rather silly, presumed that it was the same socket, just beefed up a bit. I fitted it to the boat and here I am.

Nathan,

Forgive me if I've labouring the point and stating the bleeding obvious, but if the the 15m 16a Marinco Power Cord on the TCS site for £79.95 you're looking at is this one :

http://www.tcschandlery.co.uk/ProductDet...cf-938a1565456c

then it has the 16a plug, not the 32a plug that you'll need for your socket. The 32a plug is larger and more expensive.

Sorry for stating the obvious again, wouldn't like to see you buy the wrong thing twice !

No need for forgiveness, more thanks for making sure.

On this occasion though, I'm safe. haha. I emailed TCS and explained my plight and they have ordered a 32AMP plug.

In fairness to TCS, they did offer to replace my 32amp socket with the 16 amp version, but time restraints mean I don't have the time to remove the 32, post, wait and then fit the 16, so expensive it is.
