Marina Queen or Lovely Retreat on the water

Use the boat however you like. We tend to use our boat quite alot but when I had my UK based boat a few years ago it came in very useful. I split up with my girlfriend at the time and to give her time to move out I stayed on my boat for 3 weeks, I didn't leave the marina once but I don't recall being so relaxed in the years previous ?

I don’t think it matters how people get enjoyment from boating….be it stationary or underway….or just doing them up!?

farting about with ropes and sails however doesn’t seem like a fun past time….but it’s very popular apparently. The world is full of odd balls ?
If you have odd balls you should see a doctor.

There are several stories around of retired people selling up everything and living permanently on cruise ships and in hotels as it's cheaper.

One company I might have association with still sends me offers, I could live aboard until the middle of January 2022 for 1/2 my monthly mortgage at the moment, no washing, cleaning, food included, etc.

The most recent that comes to mind are a couple who live in a cheap hotel(travelodge? I can't remember) as it's cheaper than being at home. There was an old biddy who lived on the QE2, which must have cost a fair old whallop.

Not sure about Travelodge or the QE2, but but a balcony stateroom with included food and full service, just alcohol extra for under GBP 10 a day? Guaranteed for the next 6 weeks at least - I know that's not long term but I couldn't even get enough food at McD for that.

Before covid there were plans to build huge ships for living on, they would endlessly sail the seas with their resident oldies. I suspect covid took the shine off cruise liners when they were treated as plague ships at the beginning of the pandemic

There still seem to be a couple out there - way out of my price range in any life though.

I wonder what their reasons are for making an offer that is obviously below cost.
It must be cheaper to keep the ships functions ticking over instead of mothballing.

Perhaps it’s subsidized by those who booked early and paid full price

We were intending our first cruise in September 2021. Booked before Covid but it was cancelled by the cruise company due to Covid.
The chief officer will not consider rebooking at any price.

A longer cruise was planned but some countries still won't take cruise ships so they cancelled a long trip and selling smaller/short ones trying to make some income. The ship still has to be run even if no passengers so I guess it minimising losses.

If you sail out of the US it's probably one of the safest places to be. CDC require all passengers except 5% to be vaccinated and negative tested within 48 hr of sailing and that applies to crew as well. The 5% exemption is almost always kids under 5 who can't be vaccinated. Each 'cruise' is considered to be a separate trip so like the last time I was on board I think I was tested 4 times in under 2 weeks.

Also the unvacinatted cannot disembark other than on closed tours isolated from the port and outside people. Also those kids have to be tested again on sailing and before final disembarkation.

To a greater or lesser degree we all have an element of judgementalism within us, it must be part of the human condition, and I confess on more than one occasion I’ve wondered what is the point of owning a green and slimy unloved boat. That said, I haven’t walked a mile in the owners’ shoes.
