Marina Fees Comparison

When you compare prices don't forget to take into account the cost or availability of services that are of use to you.... electricity (cost), laundry (cost), car parking, showers (quality), free nights at other associated marinas, cost of lift-outs, free tows or breakdown insurance, internet access,......

Try getting a smaller boat : When I started the yachting game, I just bought a 24 footer and found no problem in choosing my marina, especially as I didnt care too much about the cost. (no children)
I finally choked on £3200 at Port Hamble (+ two children) and I am now off to the river with Hamble River SC where my small boat fits one of their moorings for smaller yachts.

Once upon a time the RYA did a Marina Guide which had lots of prices calculated in different ways so it was nearly impossible to compare marinas run by different operators.

Basically the most expensive marina in the book is/was Hamble Point, then Port Hamble , then Mercury on the Hamble, with all other South Coast marinas lining up behind.

The problem is that their pricing scale really hits as it increases once at about 27 feet and then again at 35 feet, to almost double per foot overall.

Think nearer £10k for the 38 footer ....

Why would anybody in their right mind pay that kind of money? JUST TO PARK YOUR BOAT?

Shows you some people have got more money than sense. When we kept Yanita in the UK (Medway) all year round we paid £2,500 p/a. By moving her abroad in summer, this has come down to £1,400 p/a.

I don't care what facilities a marina has, anymore than I care about a cofeeshop near a carpark. Cars are to be driven, boats to be sailed!

Rant off!

Cost of marinas

I have been quoted nearly 9k for Hamble Point for a 38ft ; surly that cannot be true , can you really justify that as a fair charge for parking your vessel !!!!! There is nothing much there either !

Anyone know an alternative close by !

Not sure why you resurrect a 7 year old thread just to say that!

Anyway PBO publish a complete guide to marina prices every year. Most recent was a couple of months ago.

£9k is the going rate in the Hamble, but there are cheaper (and more expensive) places. Not difficult to look on a few websites and make some phone calls with your specific requirements. At least now you will not have difficulty finding a berth in most places.

Tranona is right, PBO published a full list a couple of months ago. However, there figures are based on a 'typical' boat which doesn't necessarily represent the correct price across the length range.

There is a lot more to a marina than just parking your vessel. Location is very important to some people, not for others. Proximity to shops, restaurants etc. Access by car or public transport. Preferred sailing waters. Other facilities on site or nearby.

I know this has probably been covered a thousand times before, and I know they're all hideously expensive, but does anyone know where I can find a comparison of marinas and their fees, for the S Coast? Is there some sort of website which lists them all? It's for a 38ft yacht.

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious...
Pbo did its annual comparison across the uk, last month or the month before

I have no idea if their competative though if they are not then people who have big deep business pockets doing this to market discount berthing across europe could only win you a large boaty market.

Personally if i had a large boat i would anchor it while using a smaller 15 to 20 footer to come ashore and if need be to berth it, a lot cheaper.

Try Dover, if it's not too far away; I have a mooring and not a customer, but it seems as marina prices go , it was relatively reasonable: from £216 p m.
