Our home port in Salerno, the newly built Marina d’Arechi is again exhibiting at this year’s London Boat Show at stand no E027. Since we rarely ever see (apart from UK flagged super-yachts) any other British mobos whilst cruising around in this part of southern Italy, I would like to encourage other forumites to come and visit the marina, hopefully BartW will be here this summer, as it truly is a great base to explore this fantastic region. I have recently written an article for the MBY to be published in the forthcoming March issue, which covered a cruise that we made our new Prestige 680 in June to Amalfi, Capri, Procida, Ischia, the Pontine Islands and Naples itself. This will be followed in a subsequent issue by a story covering a voyage south down the Cilento coast to Tropea, then onwards to the Aeolian islands. These spectacular and fabled islands are just 125 nms away, a day’s sailing away, with Sicily and the straights of Messina another 25nms further on.

The marina itself, which is now close to completion, is extremely well and efficiently run by a very friendly team and the owners are continually looking at ways to invest further, to make the marina the best it can possibly be. I know that BartW is considering visiting this summer, and I would like to encourage other to do the same and to try it out as a base to enjoy some of the most stunning cruising to be had in the whole of the Med.

Needless to say the excellent restaurant in the marina does a mean pizza, as well as great sea food such as this delicious whole roast turbot!

MAFW, I'll look out for the article in MBY - thanks.
Are UK flight connections good (esp London)?
Can you take a car onto the pontoons, up to the boat's transom, to unload large shopping deliveries?

Looking at the pic, you may be ok delivering on the pontoon in a Sinclair C5 :)

Re flight connections-

Probably the best airport for all year round access would be Naples which has direct flights from LTN and LGW at this time of the year with BA and EZY. Its then 70ish km on the E3. During summer I think STN becomes an option as well. We use to have an annual pilgrimage to Hotel Santa Caterina in Amalfi before moving Orpheus to the SoF.

No idea on the rest.

Hi JFM and Happy New Year to you, and the rest of the forum!

The marina is a pleasant 50 minute drive
from Naples airport, with a choice of two motorways one picturesque coastal along Bay of Naples and one inland. There are 8-9 flights a day from the UK to Naples airport; two to three with BA from Gatwick, and EasyJet has two a day from Gatwick and Stansted, as well as one from Luton. And from this summer, Ryanair is flying from East Midlands. There are also active plans to develop the local airport over the next few years, which is just 15 mins away, and it is expected Ryaniar would fly into that.

No you cannot take cars onto the pontoon, however you can drive up to the entrance to each where large trolleys are available to assist in moving luggage, shopping etc.

Am I dreaming to have seen around also some electric vehicles (golf car style), when I've been there a few weeks ago?

BTW, by sheer coincidence, I will be back again next weekend - if anyone is interested in having something checked there and then, I should have a bit of time, just ask! :)

PS: apropos, M, thanks for your email. Pity that we won't be able to catch up, but I'll keep you posted on the results of our trip. Depending on that, we might have another opportunity by the time you will be there in Feb!

No you were not dreaming... the staff of the marina use the electric buggies to chug around. I often borrowI one to transport cases of wine et alia to and from my storage unit. Btw my wife and I will be in residence on the boat the 17th (my birthday!) through the 20th February. Party on!

Which one is the turbot

Hi MAFW, looking forward to the article. Does it have an onsite pool, and/or is there a beach within easy walking distance? Are there other restaurants closeby?

It's a long way by car from Switzerland -where we are currently based in a Bentley-winter or Ferrari -summer - compared to Antibes /Cannes .
Yup could -poss fly ( we have a small lap dog -do able in a cabin bag ) -but prefer the spontaneity of the car 6 hrs ( legally:) or less illegally  ) door - Passerelle at the moment .
We can access Corsica in less than 3 hrs by boat , Elba another 1 hr or so .
Aside realise SoF has no monopoly on "nice " Med bases - it's good to know of others if that touring that region .
But I like a healthy mix petrol and Diesel toys

Hi Nick, there is no pool but a nice small private beach on the property. And several restaurants within close proximity. A trip into the historic centre of Salerno is well worthwhile, which is about a 10-15 min drive away.

we didn't make a detailed planning yet for 2017,
but the fantastic region where you're resident is still our planned destination for the best part of coming summer
will keep you updated.

I have to say that this has got me thinking too. Per my recent thread ( http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthrea...-for-2017-and-where-to-leave-boat-next-winter ) our plan is to end up in the Ionian for the 2018 season but feel there's lots to see en route to that part of the world. Amalfi coast, Sicily, Puglia to name but a few of the areas I'd have in mind to explore in 2017. What I'm after is a modern, safe marina with good support services and lots of regular flights (including through the winter). Marina D'Arechi seems as though it might be a good base from which to explore some the 'South Central' Med before heading further East to the Ionain, Croatian part of the world.

Anyway, food for thought and certainly in the thinking pot now; will chat to the Marina D'Arechi team if I manage to get to LBS.
