Short length of chain round one leg of the cleat, thence to s/s springs and hard eyes to nylon tails onboard. No chafe problems and visitors can still use the cleats.

The marina staff like having the tails on the dock as they can adjust things without going on board. The worst is on a linear pontoon the neigbour who ties up too close and uses one humungus length of line to tie his boat up. Takes ages to adjust.
