I have been a voice for Marinas to show some customer service in what is a service industry,
I have voted YES as I contacted my Marina directly and got hold of the MD I appreciate they are a a business but I am a customer
I have been given a long term discount spread over my monthly costs and a free lift out, which I appreciated , this was suggested by the MD
I was not looking for a full refund for the year as some thought on here, the way they were banging on about it , a simple appreciating of the inconvenience and hassles to the customer , oh that would be me :)

I agree fully and glad you have a reasonable marina. Unfortunately, I too contacted my Marina but was offered no discount, nothing extra free, just advised that I had signed the licence for a year therefore they couldn’t reduce the monthly cost. Now, I would be pretty happy with this if my boat was there and being looked after, but it’s not. My space is empty and I’m paying additionally to have her in a boatyard as they shut the marina in March. Luckily now I can get on with the work and bring her around to marina, but I then have to apply to get access and this is being limited to 10 people per day. That’s why I’m a little fed up, just something to help with the additional storage costs, not a full waiver.

We got a monthly invoice from sandpoint marina, they seem to be charging us the normal winter rate
I was a wee bit disappointed that they just fired out the invoice because there has been no other contact from them at all. I dont expect to be able to keep it there for nothing but I was hoping that they might have offered a bit of a discount given the circumstances
It is a pretty rough and ready yard and I'm not sure how much they bother about the whole customer service thing - although they are all very nice

Nice people do nice things.
Write them a nice letter and you may get a nice reply. Maybe they've just not thought it through and need some customer help from yourself. :)

Yeah I could I suppose. Although if they were to discount for me they would have to do it for everyone.
I guess there will be winners and losers in this. Yards like sandpoint won't have much summer income from boat storage I wouldn't have thought. So they will make a bit of money from boats sitting there in the yard that they wouldn't normally. But presumably they will be losing revenue elsewhere.
It's a wee bit annoying as we have our own mooring so summer is essentially free for us. But in the wider scheme of things its not a big deal.
We might not bother launching this year. Might not be worth it by the time the restrictions are lifted. I'm guessing there will be other folk thinking the the same thing.

Not so much a covid thing, but my marina started insisting last winter that boats on the hard used a cradle (their cradle) and provided too few cradles for the boats that were booked for time out. As a result work I commissioned in October (1-2 weeks in a cradle) was delayed until February when we racked up 6 weeks in a cradle and were charged for all of that. The marina people failed to understand that cold weather, storms and darkness makes a difference to out of water work. They then launched the boat into lockdown.

not happy

Given a small discount , and have been treated very well by staff and MD , even got a little plaque on my berth during lockdown letting others know it is my boats berth and that it is a disabled berth .
So no complaints

The government has issued some guidance on the Competition and marketing authorities website in respect to contracts which are only part delivered due to covid

I didn't get any refund and the rate at renewal of the contract in July increased.
The gate into the marina was never locked to keyholders .

They then launched the boat into lockdown.

not happy
What would you have preferred? the boat stuck on the hard all lockdown with launch date unknown? And not being allowed access to the boat to work on it?

At least your boat was launched and when movement restrictions were eased you could go sailing. Spare a thought for many many boats stuck on the hard all summer and unable to sail at all.

Lockdown released Wednesday, boat launched Friday (y)

MDL looked after us pretty well. The boat was stuck in Cobbs Quay Marina as lockdown came as we were about to deliver her back to Chatham MDL. They looked after the boat well, took photos of the boat for us and sent them to us, checked lines, kept comms up and gave us some credit back against next year. Given its been a hard time for all, I think their response has been pretty good.
