Marina at Sheerness?

The Sheerness port development plans have now been published at http://peelports.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Sheerness-Master-plan-V6.pdf. The diagram of the marina in on page 37.

My initial comment is it would be exposed to NE gales and would probably need an additional breakwater to break any waves. The circular plan for pontoons is novel and probably a little wasteful for maximum usage.

Totally agree, Presumably the drawing was produced by a graphic artist or some such without a single clue about wind and waves or the operational needs of a marina (there appears to be no provision for laying up ashore either)

That is interesting. When we had a boat on the north side of the Thames there was nowhere to go for a weekend except up the Medway, usually to Hoo or the Swale.

I've never been to Sheerness - is it worth a visit?

It's a vibrant and even throbbing small town, some interesting old shops and buildings, I used to drive up there regularly when I was living on board at Queenie.
The locals will warm the cockles of your heart with their enjoyment of good English ales, such as Carlsberg Special Brew, their delight in a local pungent aromatic blend of 'tobacco', and their forthright patriotism! They sport some wonderful tattoos and body piercings as well, often in lieu of clothing ;)
Not to be missed for a uniquely British experience!

There are bits of history to see, but the general answer is probably 'no'.

Hold on a minute....

I'll raise you a sandy beach!

and the mud alongside; don't forget the mud.

Also the heady delights of Blue Town; so called because the local houses were painted with Pusser's Blue Warship paint which had 'escaped' over the dock wall.

Well, there's lots of Lord Nelson (bless the Immortal Memory) and Lady H about, legend has it they used to meet up round these parts to check out each others' parts.

Where is Sheerness

It's where you end up after leaving Gillingham with your new mobo (bought from eBay for £400) and navigating your way to Southampton via the the Swale with an AA road map, £20 of petrol and some sandwiches from the garage.

:)

All you have to remember is to keep the land on the right. Then it is easy to always keep returning to Sheerness via the Swale.
