I need to replace a Forespar marelon seacock (I broke off the handle - doh!). Can anyone please confirm whether the Seaflow ones as sold by ASAP are in fact the same as/made by Forespar? TIA!

If I remember correctly, Forespar are US and usually have an NPT thread, though I understand they now make them with both threads NPT and BSP; most European products have a BSP thread so better check they use the same standard, otherwise for example an NPT 1" will not match with a BSP 1".
I just looked at ASAP's Seaflow and they appear to have BSP threads.

I'd first check the type of thread you have, then if you only want to replace the handle it's one thing, if you replace the whole seacock then probably all related fittings will have to be changed to the correct thread.
In terms of spares etc, maybe having one single seacock with fittings of a very different type from all the others you have onboard is better avoided ?

Could I ask how the handle snapped off? Interested to know as I fitted some earlier this year. Perhaps worth speaking to a authorised dealer to see if you can get a discounted replacement? (sorry it doesn't answer your specific question)

Forespar's seacocks are trademarked Marelon, Seaflow are simply called Marlon (no e). They are not the same.
Forespar seacocks sold in USA are npt thread, outside USA they sell both npt or bsp.
In UK Forespar were distributed by Nauquip in Warsash, may have changed, I'm a bit out of date. If still Nauquip their phone number is 01489 885336. You may be able to buy just the handle although it doesn't show on my 2006 price list.

Hi. Thanks for the replies!

The handle was seized, and simply (and quite easily) broke off in my hand. The boat had been ashore some time, and the seacock hadn't been operated in I don't know how long... If you search the forums, you will see other mentions of broken handles, unfortunately. That said, I'm happy to stick with Marelon as the alternatives also have their own disadvantages (such is life!).

Aquafax are now distributors for Forespar, but Nauquip may also be - I haven't used them before but I will check them out.

Seaflow do now seem to be using the 'e' - see http://www.asap-supplies.com/search/marelon/marelon-seacock-valve-with-through-hull-402805 .

Roberto thank you for your comments about the different threads. As my boat used to be in the Caribbean, I'd better check my existing seacocks carefully. As you say, it seems prudent to keep everything the same.

Thanks again!

and they seem to carry the forespar name http://www.asap-supplies.com/marine/non-metallic-valves/marelon-valve-female-each-end-405823

I have some spare handles for "93" series valves supplied to me by Forespar in the States. PM me the handle size if you want one.

That's really kind - thank you! However, unfortunately part of the handle is still stuck in the seacock and so I think we need to replace the main body too (although possibly not the thru-hull, which I appreciate goes against the warranty). Thanks again anyway.
