I’ve only just seen this. What terribly sad news. A truly brilliant yacht designer who brought so much to the industry. RIP.
Marc Lombard was one of the first of many French yacht designers to have studied yacht and boat design at Southampton Solent (or Southampton College of Technology as it was back then). The top designers of the current crop of IMOCA 60 yachts have all been through its doors; Guillaume Verdier, Juan K, Sam Manuard…..

I’ve found that I gain great kudos in France when people discover that I studied naval architecture at Southampton; certainly something that doesn’t seem to impress anyone back home in the UK. I don’t bother disillusioning them by pointing out that I did dreary old Ship Science up the road at Southampton University.

And wasn't Ed Dubois one of the first of many English yacht designers to have graduated from this fine institution?
Others of fine repute include Richard Woods.

I did as well (Frog and I were classmates), although I started off initially on the HND Naval Architecture course down the road at Southampton Institute of Higher Education (as it was then, in between SCT and Southampton Solent University).

Yes. Ed Dubois was one of Solent’s early success stories.
