Manchester ship canal

Curious after crossing the Manchester ship canal today in a train today if a sailing boat can go down the canal, and if it can how far can you go before a bridge halts the journey.
I'm not sure the swing bridges would allow access but if they did how far?

In the past we have gone into the Manchester ship canal then into the Weaver and on up to Northwich for the winter. This used to be a great winter yard then a guy called Jonathan bought the yard and turned it into a scrap yard. He really isn't interested in having yachts there.
