Mainsail hoisting problem

We had the same problem and basically solved it by loosening the battens this also solved a problem of getting the sail to invert in light weather we also used silicone grease on the slugs and made sure that the backstay was not too tight it now goes up easily and drops very fast under it's own weight if the haliyard us cleared to run .

Topping lift - good question! How tight should it be? I haul down with my weight (90kg) and cleat it off. We have a vang type kicker for what its worth by the way.

As you are having problems raising the sail then suggest you try the following when hoisting. raise the boom with the topping lift about 10degrees above horizontal. Let off the mainsheet and kicker/vang completely. Go head to wind. Try and raise the sail. If its still difficult then its one of the suggestions above & not your technique.

If its the sheeves you might get an impression of this by trying to roll them whilst holding both ends of the halyard.
