Magma BBQ\'s?

Anyone got a Magma marine BBQ? I was wondering why they are so expensive at £199 - £240 for the gas stove ones, and whether they are something special and worth considering. I am considering either one of these or a Cobb, I have fully researched and know all I need to about the Cobb, so any Magma info would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: Magma BBQ\'s?

I've been using and abusing a magma barbeque for 5 or 6 years now and found it to be a really robust piece of kit.

Haven't got experience of the gas fired jobs, being a fan of charcoal but the bulid quality is great, and doesn't seem adversely effected by a marine environment.

Regularly gets dunked overboard when still at high temperature with no apparent effect, so in short delighted with the charcoal version.

Excellent products. Have been using one for best part of 15 years - gas version. Very popular in US, if that means anything to you. About $160 at West Marine for gas version, which I wld highly recommend.

£200 for the gas one here and £40 for a 10inch piece of metal with a clamp on the end to fix it to a pole /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif What a rip off /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I lit it tonight and nearly blew myself up, when you turn on the gas it is at full power by default, I singed my bloody arms /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Sems to go like hell though, I had better buy decent food, my cheap greasy sausages will melt in no time /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Magma BBQ\'s?

Egg sucking maybe, but we find it best to use a ridged grillpan (with handle removed) rather than cook direct on the rack which will drop fat and smoke everything up. We spray the meat (not the pan) with olive oil using a spray thingy from Lakeland, also useful for dressings. We can do a full roast dinner on the Magma inc roast tatties, carrots, shallots putting the meat in a S/S circular pan I bought on Lymington Market, it just fits with the BBQ lid on. You will need a meat thermometer for this as it cooks much quicker than you expect.

BTW if you remove the rack and S/S heat spreader plate you can light it and keep your arms hairy.

Re: Magma BBQ\'s?

Did you buy the circular model - kettle- I think they call it?
In hundreds of uses with mine, I've never had the problem you've experienced. You really should light it as soon as you turn on the gas and not 5 min later:)
