We saw the forecast for 6 to 7 and decided with two children and a baby discretion was the......

Of course now we're back at Fox's it's a sunny force 3

Note to Lazy Kipper: from Shotley, turn right for Hamford, not left :D

Weather was not that bad, mostly F4-5 then decreased in the afternoon. One brief period where it touched 6 for a couple minutes as a squall passed south of us but then it was fine.

Great day, thanks for kicking it off and a pity you couldn't make it.

We made two weather rules a while back after foolishly setting off in weather that was too much for us.

1. Never set sail when the met says 6 or higher
2. Never regret sticking to rule #1 otherwise we may make a silly decision next time

The weather was lovely yesterday but the youngest two are four months old and four years old, so rules one and two above are strictly adhered to. Sorry to have missed the fun, the last two years' have been highlights of the calendar, and appologies for not notifying you that we had turned back, to be honest I didn't realise I was the organiser.

And as for Shotley.......we ran aground on the way in, queue jumped (accidentally, didn't know the system), lost the stupid dog who jumped ashore to chase a squirrel whilst in the dock on the way out and crew forgot to tie off the stern line so we straddled the lock. Memorable but for all the wrong reasons. And we lost a new boathook over the side near Pin Mill :(

We had to have to flagstaff lowered in height under EU cross border transit rules. Apparently only the Dutch are allowed a flag staff of more than 50% of the length of the boat.
