MacGREGOR 26M.

Ah. Now. You've got me there.
We don't do long voyages (over half a day) so don't really have much need.

Best I can do is

I am sure there are thousands of owners like you who use Macs sensibly in waters they were intended for and have great fun with them.

Personally I wouldnt be tempted because of the stability issue ,they do go over and once capsized they stay over.

One from our club capsized a few years ago with 5 people aboard ,They were motoring at the time in about a force 5 to 6 (This was more wind than was forecast or they probably wouldnt have gone out)

.Several other small boats were in the area such as Hurley 22 Invicta 26 Vivacity 20 all coped with the fresh conditions. The crew of the Mac were rescued by other boats in the area and taken ashore in a Rescue helicopter.

I had a look at one in a boatshow once out of interest. The build quality was pretty rough inside.

People will relate stories about how they sailed theirs cross channel etc etc .This is all meaning less. People cross oceans in Bathtubs, canoes ,modified dinghys etc. Good Luck to them.

Have a look at a good Etap 22 .Superb boat IMHO .

Indeed, although I have a good piggy back trailer and launching trolly for Merit, I can't call her a trailer sailor, although maybe a week or two in a new cruising ground each summer would be worth the hassle.

Launching off a trailer would be the problem. Our 26' bilge keeler floats in just over 3ft of water, so to float off a trailer would need around 4'6" water depth. You couldn't really back your car that far down a slipway.

I didn't really think it throught, did I?

Yes, I can see the problem now. I reckon it would float if you backed the car far enough, so just the tip of the aerial was showing.
