Although tied up in a marina it’s a worry when the weather turns bad, here in Galicia we have it seems endless Atlantic lows passing carrying lots of rain.I can picture the boat in its berth and mentally examin every rope attaching the boat to the pontoon. The riasbajasare open to the south west although the Ria de Vigo is sheltered by the Cíes islands and. Can picture the ria and can imagine the slight protection as the bay curves to the north giving some shelter. In these days of internet I know exactly what the wind is doing and apparently it’s improving over the course of the night…….and there is a marina watchman keeping an eye on things….so I hopefully can sleep soundly………..it’s now 1am. and the wind has stopped howling🙂

Yep, just woken and checking the wind speeds here in Jersey as well, but not too bad but she is in a floating cradle… but will be going back to sleep…

Blowing a bit here in Southampton, too. I spent too long in the small hours, listening to the wind and the rain, SotonMet telling me it's F8, gusting 9, wondering how the boat's doing, and if those drips I can here are outside the house or inside.

I presume, leaky windows apart, Jazzcat's fine, as I haven't had a phone call, and all the drips seem to have been outside, too. SotonMet seems to have blown away, because they have no current data, but BrambleMet is offering F4/5.

I spent the early hours listening to the wind in the rigging and rain on the deck in Plymouth. Much more exciting to be on board, although less sleep!
Zero damaged boats here in Sutton Harbour despite the number and strength of recent storms

Strewth! Ye intrepid ould marina mariners!

I spent the early hours listening to rain chattering on the windowpane, wondering if there will be twigs to pick up later, and tugging the winter fleece blanket tighter around my cozy, snoozy shoulders....

During our 22 years living aboard, during bad weather in harbour, it was nice to reflect that I'm not out on a bumpy sea getting soaking wet. Yet again....

It's blowing a F9 at Prawle just now. The gusts are hitting the front of the house with a hell of a thump.

We've lived on board for 6 years, if the wind gets loud, we just turn the tv up.........well secured with 16mm mooring lines.....only minor annoyance is the odd banging shroud line on other boats but that depends on wind direction and tends to get sorted out the next day. Happy days.

I have to say I'm continually astonished in these storms that the Starlink dish doesn't move at all. We get the occasional slight glitch in very heavy rain but otherwise it's quite storm proof

Who ( else ) remembers the Good Old Days of the penny whistle and squeezebox in the fo'c'sl after dark, halfway through the First Watch, and before the homely strains of 'Sailing Bye' caused one to 'pipe down'....

Yep its now a weekly trudge down to bale and chk the dinghy, bucket in one hand, binocs in the other. Boat seems ok until I can get out to it next week.

I have a bucket on deck in Plymouth and it fills once a week and has done for over two months now. That's about 2" rain a day on average, and the bucket is on the sugar scoop so slightly protected

On the bright side, if anyone dares to ban hosepipes this year there might finally be some action to sort out the water!

On Monday, at Inverness marina I was testing my modified spinnaker snuffer, and feeling warm enough just wearing a T shirt and jeans.
That could be because I'm super tough of course.

That’s what I said last winter when it never stopped raining for weeks.
Last summer it was drought and here in Yorkshire we had a hosepipe ban until Xmas!

The only saving grace was our local BBC weatherman interviewed the ceo of the water company and very politely asked her relevant questions. She looked a completely inadequate manager let alone a leader. He didn’t even mention the back door bonus mechanism. The highlight was when he asked her when they last built a dam and she said “ you should have briefed me on that question!”

I was curious so looked it up, and many of our reservoirs are still only at 80%. You couldn't make it up, how hard can it be to pump water from rivers when they're flooding?
