The only place where anchoring is restricted for Conservation purposes in the region is Studland. No restrictions are planned for other anchorages - yet. You will be very firmly asked to move if you try to pass through oranchor in the Lulworth ranges on a firing day - backed by Army Tanks loaded with live rounds beyond the hill....

Strictly speaking anchoring isn't restricted in Studland, they've asked people to voluntarily stop anchoring while they arrange to ban us fully so if anything it's probably best to get in while you can because the crazies won't stop until the whole coast is closed.

It can be quite an uncomfortable anchorage as visiting boats are restricted to the Eastern side of the bay where a southerly swell is at its worst. I would read up what others have said before making a decision. It's not my choice except in very settled weather.

In calm weather it’s lovely, spent many a happy night there. Not a place to be in anything above a F3 or so, and best with the wind from the North through to South East. If the forecast deteriorates it’s not far to Weymouth.

Agree, with any onshore breeze it quickly becomes untenable,. As chrisD says anything much above f3 it becomes Roly and untenable. Anchoring amongst the moorings is not banned. There just isn't room, and the risk of fouling someone's ground chains is more than any prudent skipper should want.

Friend of a friend once fired a fin round on a HESH trajectory there. Probably made a splash in mid-channel.

I’ve found anchoring in Lulworth can be fine for a visit but would not stay overnight. Even in settled conditions it always feels rolly in there.
