luff length

hi all
i looking to buy a used asymmetric to be tacked at the bow roller fitting. my forestay is approx 11+ metre long, the tack line would rise about 0.5 m, what would be the recommended luff length of the asymmetric i should be looking at ?

Surely this depends upon the height of the halyard sheave you intend to use.

Cruising chute or reacher?

Generally, if you're intending to use the sail as a reacher the overall area ia about the same as your spinnaker, but needs to be set on an outrigger. about 20% longer than its foot. The luff is about 20% longer than the spi and leech correspondingly shorter.

With the spavined bastard, known as a cruising chute, you measure the distance from tack-position to head and take off about 150mm for stretch. Use a piece of string to measure.

Cruising chutes are of value as additional sail-area on your typically undercanvassed cruising boats and together with roller reefing mains sacrifice performance to dislike of exercise.

As the Anglo-Saxon nations are facing and obesity crisis I've no doubt that, in due course, they will be banned by the (to-be-formed) Ministry of Homeland Fitness.
